with all due respect...'restoring' is for old people.I'm gonna run the crap out of it ,after installing 33",dana 44's and a 4.0 out of a grandcherokee. :brows:

Just document everything and take lots of pics for us old folks before you build it! I love to see the old iron built to run, but it's also nice to know how it was done by the factory!

No offens...i happen to be 37,but prefer to run the thing since that's what it was meant to do and not sit in a showroon or garage.

Poor engine choice for that rig. Do you plan on lengthening the front clip?
Cutting holes in the hood for clearance? Boxing the firewall for head/valve cover clearance?
Do you have experience with modifications of this nature? Making a long engine fit where there isn't sufficient space? What tranny do you plan to mate to the 4.0L ? Do you know what is involved with that?
I hate to see you cut up this pristine rig, only to learn you are in way over your head....
Forgive my remarks if you do have the requisite skills and resources to accomplish what you describe. I'm only suggesting there are other ways to accomplish what you intend... such as a flatfender tub on a rolling chassis built to handle the driveline you intend... or just drive it as-is, they are very capable.
You might be able to sell it to a collector for ALOT more than you paid, enough to finance a build on a more suitable rig...
I'm not a purist by any stretch, it's YOUR rig... but I've seen projects like this all to often go awry for lack of skill/resources/experience/sound advice.... and ruining a perfectly good original specimen in the bargain.
Good luck, keep us posted

Thank you for the advice. To be honest with you ,i haven't built anything other than a dodge ram and a tj,both keeping the stock engines.I honestly didn't know if the 4.0 would fit in the old bucket but since i have it here,i was willing to try.In the end ,i might get a willys shipped out from the states this spring.it seems a lot cheaper to buy one already modified that to start spending money on modifying one that honestly,i don't know how it will turn out.Again ,you opinion is greatly appreciated.thank you.
Whew!! I'm glad you understand my thoughts, I was afraid that you would think my post too harsh...
As I said, consider selling this original military rig to a collector. Check out the "G"... www.g503.com
This site specializes in military rigs, and may have some members in your area who are interested.
I'm also going to give you the name/contact of a fellow on our board who resides in the UK and has a big interest in military Jeeps of that era...
Contact Chris through his website:
www.gijive.co.uk
While you're at his website, look around, it's pretty cool...
I'll send him an email and refer him to this post
You may be better off looking for a built Jeep in the UK rather than shipping from the states... maybe Chris can hook you up with some for sale, or maybe you could check with another of our members in the UK, Stuart, contact him through his website
http://www.stuartaldridge.net/jeep/
(and be prepared for some very entertaining reading about his Jeep experiences!!) :D
Best of luck to you oresti... :)

I know alot of people would get on me for this but I hate seeing rigs in that prestine condition hacked up. It would be one thing if it sat in a field and was already trashed, but that thing is nice. I am not saying to let it sit in a garage or showroom either. I would just preserve it and enjoy it. Just my .02

Now I like to carve up a car as much as the next man, but IMHO that Jeep there is way to sweet as it is to mod.
From my limited experience, I would sell the puppy you have right there. In good condition you'd be looking at between *7,500 to *10,000 in the UK at the moment. The guy who runs this site http://www.jeepworld.co.uk is the font of all knowledge when it comes to military Jeeps in the UK and would probably know of people who'd be interested in purchasing. His name is Mark Askew and he's a very nice guy indeed.
That then leaves you 'sans-Jeep'. If I had my time/money again (visit my website to see where it all went - www.stuartaldridge.net/jeep), I'd go for a post '76 CJ7. The 7 has loads of character, and you simply have to have a post 76 to have any chance of finding spare parts / compatible mods. There is a place in the UK (Lighthouse Jeep Parts) that stocks some earlier parts, but your choice is very severely limited, and in Europe we don't have the pleasure of being able to stroll down to the nearest wreckers yard to salvage parts from old Jeeps like our American friends do, they simply aren't there.
Getting compatible parts has been my biggest nightmare, and inevitably I have had to ship loads from the US, and in some cases fabricate from scratch.
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck with your project, and hope you have masses of fun in it.

I gotta agree with everything Adam said, that is just to nice to hack up and make a trail rig. I would just clean it up real good and sell it, or better yet trade it for cash and a more beat up willys.

You won't regret saving this rig in the long run.
Follow up with Stuart's recommendations above, you can make some $$$ on this unit!
In the interim, have some fun... we're looking forward to more pics!!
