View Full Version : Engine hesitates at higher speeds

I have a '70 CJ5 that I bought in California and drove to Utah. It ran great when I made that drive. I then spent about 8 months rebuilding the transmission, transfer case, and fixing the body up. I had a mechanic adjust the carburetor and timing, and towed it to my new home in Durango, CO. I test drove it and it runs okay until I get on the highway. At high speeds the engine hesitates and dies. It seems starved for gas. I changed the fuel filter, filled the tank with good gas, and put additive in the gas to clean out any water condensation.
Any ideas on what the issue is? I want to have it fixed by a professional but want to know what may be the problem before taking it to a mechanic I do not know.

Well Travis...I know it's been awhile since ya posted this didja get it fixed yet? Just wandered in an it kinda sounds like a bit anemic..like not enough air at those Rosky Mountain High elevations...check out yer carb mixture.....or drop us a line ta what the 'mechanic' said.....did it costya big buck$ ?
