I was talking to this guy who does stuff on jeeps...hes like a god when it comes to making parts...he can do anything. I was looking at his most recent project XJ. its axle looked really messed up. so I asked him about it. and he explained that instead of rising the shocks, springs, exc. to get the needed hight, he rebuilt the axles to work like the hummers do, drop axles is what i think he said they were. the job cost 30 thousand dollars (canadian) and takes 3 months. he clames that the jeep is able to keep much of its factory handeling for many reasons, incuding the fact that the rebuilt axles are much wider (the jeep that was geting a 5 inch lift was 3 inches 4 inches wider) andits off road ability was greatly hightened by the new design. he said hes done it on all types of jeeps, including libertys... the most popular jeep for it is cherokees. of course i was speachless. Im probbally the only one in this entire forum that has ever seen a jeep done up like that...man...whoa....im speachless...it looked great...it worked great....whoa..im still in shock and i saw it three days ago..

i wish I could. he says his "secret" design is too unique, and he doesnt want anyone coppying it...he wont let me take pictures :x so i asked him if i could find the names of some people who had it done, then take pictures of their rides. but guess what? he wont give me their names!!!! I WILL GET THOSE PICTURES...even if i have to hide a camera in my hat...but then..i dont want to piss this guy off, hes my main man when it comes to fabing parts for me! :x

Ummm why would you want to make it like a hummer? I know humvees look cool and look like they can take on the world... but after dealing with them in all types of environments and terrains I have come to the conclusion... they suck. they are prone to break very easily and the design of the axles doesn't allow for much articulation.

But still I would like to see pictures if you can manage them.

portal axles... easy to do.. more money than there usualy worth.

As I recall didn't unimogs have a setup like this too???

That seems pike alot of cash for some axles and I would rather sink the money into other things instead.

I agree.. some pics would be nice...

I am kinda interested to see how that is set up... the humvees run off of a half shaft setup which is a weakness for them. the halfshaft bolts are always coming loose or breaking. the the hubs are not that strong. In Kosovo alone I saw no less than a dozen geared hubs get replaced after shattering. I would like to see the final product.

I know what he is talking about . There was an article on those axles in one of the 4wheeler mags a month or 2 back. Something about a grocery getter.
