I have a chance to buy a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo for $5995.00 It has 104k miles, a new transmission, new tires, CD player, Cloth Interior. It's a straight 6 cyl., 4.0 engine. I already have a 97 Wrangler and would like to complete my driveway with a Cherokee.

Has anybody had serious problems w/Grand Cherokee Laredos?

The only gripe I have about Grand Cherokees is that some people STILL don't drive them.

Obviously, bring it to a qualified mechanic for a checkup before shelling out that kind of cash... 6K's not unreasonable, but a bit on the high side. But, the CD player and new tranny & treads seem kinda nice...

Good luck!

Hey there! I have a 95 GC Laredo and I love it dearly, i've had no problems with it and can take it just about anywhere I need to go. 6000 is a little high, but not hard to believe. with a new tran, you won't have any problems.

Okay. Here's the deal with the 94...

I DID take it to a qualified mechanic. Everything checks out except for the right axle rubber boot, and a leak coming from the oil filter flange to the engine. I also noticed a "noise" when driving at 45-55 MPH coming from the same area. The mechanic couldn't give me a suitable answer for this (and he drove it too), suspecting the front right axle... I hear a "rum, rum, rum" sound. The sound only starts when going into OD. It goes away when pulled into neutral, but comes back again when accelerating (between the 45-55 MPH range). Maybe I should go 60 MPH and turn the radio up so I don't hear it. :) Is this common with All-Wheel Drive???

The question is: Is this the transmission, the trans axle, or what? I've talked the buyer down to $5250--- I really don't have the spare income to sink into this. If it's the axle, then it doesn't make sense that it would only be happening when going into automatic overdrive (or the noise stopping when shifted into neutral).

Suggestions anyone? Thanks!
