I've been keeping a close eye on the lift kit bolts and what not and thought I was in the clear everything was nice and tight right. WRONG!.
I'm heading home yesterday and at a few stops The frount end has a clucking noise to it. pulled over looked really quick and everything looked ok. started to pull into the driveway and cluck and the frount end just had a loose feeling to it. backed up same thing forward same thing. rolled under the jeep and both bolts to the uper controll arms are missing. sorry the bolts are there but no nuts ??? first of all I had these sob on there as tight as I could get them. Second I checked them and they were fine as of sat. So do these need to be torqed down and if so how much.

Apparently so. Were these nuts the ones with the plastic things in them? I would think if you had them tight and then had checked them it would have been good.

Anyway that you can use lockwashers or self locking nuts to keep them on?

ya thats what I did for now. I took a lockwasher and a normal bolt and some locktight for now. I'm going to keep a closer eye on them and see how that works.

I don't know cause they both fell off hahah all the suck. I don't think they were cause the ones on my 98xj don't have that plastic nylon strip in it.

A pothole could have juggled it loose. Did you use a rachet or a torque wrench/breaker bar to tighten them? Never use a rachet to loosen non-broken loose nuts or to tighten them, because you can strip the gears inside of the rachet. Not only that, but the torque spec might not have been reached.

WOW...

all I can think of is to take the bolts out, drill a hole in the threaded end and runa cotter in through em. If your realy feelin froggy you could use a castelated nut and even saftey wire the things.

Use lock tight or Castle nuts ...
I have the same prob. with the cops at work. They abuse the front ends of the cars.....go figure......I locktight all the bolts and use stainless cotters to go thru the castle nutz.
My bronco had 4" lift in it, used to loosen up all the time....Locktight Dogggg!

thats what I was thinking about doing. using castle nuts thats what I was looking for but all 4 places I went was out of the size I needed. I've hit a # of potholes the last two weeks with all the crappy weather we've had there popping up left and right.
breaker bar is how I got them off and on.

Home depot or Lowes man... big bis usually around aisle 7. Bag after bag of castelated nuts.

OR you could use castelated nuts, self locking nuts (the ones with the plastic on them) on top of that, and then use locktite...

Bet you a shiny nickel they won't come off (probably even if you want them off)

But seriously.. Castelated and the self locking would be more than adequate... I hate lock-tite because it is a pain in the tail to get the nuts off whan you need them off.

if you REALLY want them to not come off.....use a regular ss nut, and then weld that mutha on there........not very practical, and this is really a joke, but ive had a few and feelin loose....

I keep checking them out everyday and they are on there still nice and tight. I'm still going to swap them out with a castelated nut. Thats on tap for sat. THanks I downloaded the FSM file for my jeep, but havent had time to look it over to see what it says about torquing it down or not.

Yeah share the wealth man...everything I've ever found just gives me general torque specifications on bolt type and size. I mean really they expect me to torque the grade 8 in my shackles to 110 ft lbs.....RIIIIGHT....
