I have a short girlfriend(4'11'') and she loves jeepin with me. I eventually am going to put a lift on it and was originally going to just install rock gaurds. How much clearance would I lose with tube steps? Are there good rock gaurds with a nice step? Dont want to have to get rid of her yet, SHE LOVES JEEPIN!! :rock

you will probably lose about 3 inches in ground clearence on the tube side steps. Tomken makes a rocker gaurd with about a 1 1/2 step on it. They are a little more but you dont lose any ground clearence.

Take a milk crate with ya( seriously, no offense meant) and lift the snot out of it. I'll be like a stepstool and you can keep your gear in it. I did just exactly that with my 90 bronco with 4" of lift. :t my wife's 5' even and it helped alot!

Yep my wife is only 5' as well, JeepKreep has the best idea however I have seen eletric steps that come down when you open the door and go up when door is closed. I am sure they are expensive but how expensive I am not sure. Unfortunately you will have to check around not sure who sells them. Sorry for not being much help but just an other idea.

On my old CJ5 I had a chain ladder that would hook onto my rock guards so my girlfriend (at that time) could climb up. It does not take that much room to store and she could hook em up easily.

Just a thought for ya. :USA:

As far as the retractable step goes... try an RV (the trailer/winnebago kind) for someone that might stock them. Alot of the more expensive RV's have them under than entrances. Another place to check would be a trailer manufacturer... someone that produces workshop/equestrian trailers would be a good reference point. the chain step idea is good also... and you really don't even have to stow it. it can drag the ground (might hang up some if you are hitting some tall jagged rocks, but if you are tackling something that big you will probably have a spotter out that can keep an eye on them.

They stay up and out of the way when you don't need em and don't hurt your side clearance.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I think I am going with some rockgurds with a step. I have got hadles she can pull herself up with, if she needs a boost I can always get on my hands and knees and she can climb on me to get in
