ok heres the deal we all hate paying the gas prices these days i mean hey it cuts into our beer money. well my hoby is metal casting for this i run a waste oil blower foundry. i make biodiesel to fuel it. my old cj7 needs a new frame so in rebuilding it with a new frame the idea occured to me if i can find a diesel engine that will fit the jeep i may be set. i mean hey my cost using waste oil is just over 1$ a gallon and it is quite capable of running a diesel engine. as per this site http://www.journeytoforever.org/ so heres the question are there any diesel engines i can get that will fit in an 82 jeep cj 7 with a 300 transfer case t5 trans model 20 rear and 35 front? if anybody knows of one let me know.

why couldnt you just use a regular 6.2 diesel engine out of, say......a chevy CUCV or something similar. People do v8 swaps in CJ's all the time. Block is nearly the same, will weigh a bit more. Advance Adapters will probalby have an adapter to fit your tranny and maybe even your motor mounts too but if you are thinking about going diesel, you would probably want to upgrade your tranny anyway. Diesels put out a lot of torgue and would probable eat your tranny up so you would want to swap in a TH400 or maybe a 4L80e. I dont know anything about the t-case you have under the Jeep but I am sure Advance Adapters has an adapter for that too or you could slap in an NP205, you will never break that case.
I know all that sounds like a lot of effort but even if you got some small little diesel out of an old Nissan pickup or a motor out of an ole Mercedies or something similar, I think the torque will just tear your transmission apart.

Do a search on the web. There are a few guys out there with Cummin's 4 cylinder diesels in their Jeeps. I know one I found a kid did it in some class at school. Looked really clean. Motor mounts and frame strengthening would be key. They are a bit pricey from what I have seen on Ebay.
Good luck and if you do it, make sure to take lots of pictures and post them here when you are finished.

My Teacher when I was at Canton university in Canton New York was a diesel nut and had a quantum wagon that ran on biodiesel. I was talkin' to him one day about them when he was giving me a ride up to school and we were discussing some ideas and what not with the diesels, anyway, the diesel he had in his 80 somethin' mercedes, which was pretty fast, would run without the electrical system, just needs it to start, so it's completely mechanical which may make it easier to put into your jeep and you'd never have to worry about water shorting it out when going through deep water crossings! I also just thought the mercedes diesel would be a good size, and them engines in the benz run forever! great motors! as far as hooking it up to the rest of your drivetrain, I dunno, the benz diesel is just, in my opinion, the best candidate.

I know this is an old thread, but just in case you're still working on this project....

You might check out some tractor motors, I know Perkins has been making 3 &4 cyl ones for a while, for both tractor and marine applications. Just my 2 cents.
Perkins engines were an option in 60's CJs... :)
Look up "Hubdeep" over on JU, either on the CJ board or OT... he runs a Nissan diesel in his CJ7...
