The other day I was out wheeling in some nice hilly, rutted, dry stuff and kept getting the urge to hammer down and bounce up it. I didn't and enjoyed the sweet crawl of my TJ 4 Low. But afterwards I keep thinking, hmmmmm.
So the question is, Bounce or Crawl? Which to you think is best for hill climbing in dry, rutted stuff???

well, there is this rutted up hill, called Upper Twister at Wellsville but it has a huge rock and **** in the middle of it. The only way you're getting up it is to bounce. So..my answer is...depends on the terrain! :*

if you know where you are going then feel free to bounce, otherwise you might find yourself bouncing down a steep cliff.

my 4L isnt workin right right now  so I bounce!
What everyone else said.. and a bag of chips.
If you are on really steep terrain, it would be well advised to try and avoid bouncing. This for 2 reasons... 1) if you bounce harder than you thought that you were going to, you might quickly find yourself with the upside down and the wheels trying to get traction in the "turtle on its back" postition. or 2) if you are bouncing... you have half of your drivetrain not driving it is airborne and if you have one tire in some muck and the other in a good traction spot... you might find yourself rotating off your intended line into a less desirable line and that means what?
YOU BREAK STUFF!!!
But I do agree that sometimes you have to bounce to make stuff happen, but you need to weigh the pros and cons before you try it.

For those of us with open difs front and back the bouncing method seems to work. I've found by working the accelerator I can keep the Jeep in traction. The trick is knowing when you're risking breaking something. I'd never bounce up anything very steep though.

Crawl unless I'm in a spot that I have to Bounce a bit just a bit to get out.
Too much bouncing and I'll spill my drink and I can't have that.

I had to try and speed through the mud. Less time your in the mud, less chance you have of geting stuck, unless you flood the enigne...which isnt good...because the I6's seem to cost alot to replace..

Slow...if slow crawling don't work, alittle faster each time till I make it.

Well for the most part I don't like to bounce so if I am by myself (in the my jeep alone) I crawl but some times to get over something you have to gas it alittle. But I has some nieces and nephes that I take out once in a while and I like to bouce them all over the place but when they are with me I am on easy trails that I won't roll or anything so I open her up a little.
