Hi, one of my friends at work bought a Liberty Sport for her daughter. It has given them trouble twice, both times failing to start/run after going through water (not specified as to depth, but I doubt they did anything like what I have done) and then sitting outside in the rain.

Any of you Libby guys have any experience with this or know of any issues along these lines?

Thanks!

My ole lady has a Libby. She has never had a problem with it like that., on the other hand, hers is an 06 so one would expect it to be pretty hassle free. There is a wiring harness recal on hers though, maybe that might have something to do with the problem they are having?

Mike, I don't know, but I'll check with them on it... at least it gives me something to answer them with. Suddenly I'm the "Jeep authority" because I went away for the M&G!

Well, I talked to her after staff meeting yesterday, told her to check for moisture/water in the gas tank (condensation) and to take it in for a check up with the dealer...
the feds are real funny... I'm also the mountain-climbing expert here too!

Same here. My mom has an 02 Liberty and hasn't any problems starting, but she's had the ball joint on the driver's side replaced twice.

Tom; it sure has signs of Crank Position Sensor. I'm wondering if the rubber seal is shot. Any moisture on the face is going to kill the start. I know this is the first thing the shop is going to inspect by what symptoms you supplied.

Check distributor cap for water and cracks, best and first place to check when water is involved.

They took it to the dealership, and it was the crank position sensor...
all fixed, although I don't know whether or not any seals, etc. were looked at/replaced.

I will relay the info regarding the seals, as well as the ball joint wear issue to my colleague, so we'll see how it goes. Her husband is supposed to be a capable mechanic... she told me he used to work on her Chevy Vega all the time.

I can hardly wait to hear more...

liberty's are distributor less direct coil over plug systems. there is no cap. there is no rotor and mil or cel whatever wont come on for a cps sensor unless the car was running and stopped. i know sucks but what can you do but love obd-2:lam:

My wife drives an '04 Limited, and we have no problems with it. In fact, it's been the most easy-to-live with vehicle we have ever owned. the 3.7 just purrs along. Keep in mind, that all makes of vehicles will have a bad apple once in awhile.
