Today was my first real off road trip, before today, I had done some gravel road driving, which has goten my jeep kinda muddy, but thats only some gravel roads!! So, todays plan was to go up sumas mountian, to look for some nice biking trails, and do some 4x4ing in the process...now, my T-case is kinda messed up..so I cant really get it into 4 low, but 4 high isnt a problem (ocasionaly gets stuck when you take it out, but that is easaly solved) so I was going down these roads, trees on eather side making lovely noises on my jeep, some even ended up catching on the roof rack and leaving some branches. one road was slightly slanted, so I kept on sliding sideways down the hill. then, on that same road, there was this grass hill that had a section that was really muddy (it was raining the entire time i was out there) so I tried to gun it up in 4h, well didnt work, almost at the top, all four wheels were spinning out, and i wasnt moving an inch, mud was flinging all over the car.. so I tried to turn the wheels side to side to try and bite into the hill, still didnt work...so I decided to give up..and i slided backwards down the hill into a bush (on perpose, I wanted to turn around, and there was like no room there) that was fun. anouther place, it was a big cross ditch, right after was a big hill, of course I hit something..I dont know what when I went through that one....lots of roads...and lots of mountian biking trails...it was alot of fun...and I plan on going back up there on wensday (I get my paycheck tuesday, and then I can gas up the car to go again)

that whole think on getting it into 4 low could just be a bent shift rod. that happend to me couldn't get it into 4 low looked under the jeep and the shift rod to it was bent. for high was fine.

I forgot all about the pictures. It went down like this:
I first tried the road with that killer mud hill, it was closed down...so I went buzzing around the road across from it...someone had blocked it, so I turned around, and followed down the main road to some other spots. the other spots were not mudy or anything, simple, fun. I then went back to the gated road. it had anouther road beside it, started with a huge cross ditch, one that I cought the muffler on, and T-case skid plate on my way out...let alone having all wheels spin out (so i backed up, and used more gas, and thurd time I got out) nice long road, a few hecktick spots, but it was easy after that huge ditch. i find myself a couple of km up the road. anouther gate, which is locked. so I decided to turn around.. was kinda hard, but not to much of a problem because I have a jeep, and you can turn on a dime with an XJ. well I headed back down the hill, and got back to that cross ditch. Looked kinda weird, so i took a look around there...and it looked like if I kept to the far right, I wouldnt get my bady hiting anything, and the wheels wouldnt slip into the rutt that it did before when going up the hill, which then gave me troubles because she wouldnt move. well I came through, and hit the passenger side merror on the tree ( BANG) I stoped, and cliped the merror back in. I decided to go down anouther road there, and saw this killer hill. It had two small mud holes in it, the first one i could drive straight through, and if i kept to the middle I should be able to get up the road, well guess what, i got through the first one, but slid to my left down into the second mud hole, and it wouldnt get out. I tried geting it back up the hill, but she wouldnt go, so i reversed, and tried it again, it slid more into the hole (she was siting at like a 30 degree angle at the front, and the water was on the hood on the drivers side) so i some how reversed it, and spun it around, even though it wanted to then slide down into the first hole. I drove into the first hole, and she got stuck..mud fling again. I reversed, guned it, stuck again...mud was coming up onto the hood again...so i reveresed hard, and guned it will all my I6's power in me XJ. some how got out...and i then stoped on the main road, seems 4 bikers were watching me attempt it...and they said "dude, I thought you were surely gona get stuck in there!! We didnt think you could get out...wow" and so I poped the hood....Mud covered everything..the valve cover was brown. so I headed over to a car wash, and for 2$ I got 4 minutes with a pressure washer to clean my baby off. still kinda muddy, but my dad Will never know about the mud in the engine..the only thing I can credit to geting out of that was not my skill, because I only practice the small things that my dad has shown me (and everything else, I just thought might work) but that it was a jeep. A very wild trip in an stock XJ. I dont plan on attempting that hill for a long time. I will bring pictures of that place as soon as I can. Thank you got for having my jeep be so great, and do the imposable that it did today!

*stupid camera..must burn it* I need a digital camera, mine f$@% up the film, so it looks like I have no pictures of my work on the jeep, or the trail. AKKKK!!!!!! so..the plan is (anouther plan!) to go up there again with my bike because theres lots of biking around there (and my dad told me not to take my jeep anything more 4x4 than a gravel road...)

he tells me jeep cherokee's are for gravel roads...period. you are not suposed to go any fearther off road. yet, Everytime he goes camping, hunting, or fishing...he always sees a 4x4 road with his XJ. thats his excuse....right now i cant go 4x4ing because its wet...and mud leaves mud on car...which cant be cleaned seeing i dont even have any money for cleaning it....so untill it dries up, im gona keep my jeep to gravel roads, because once its dry, he will never know.

Sorry that you think it will dry up around here but you are in the pacific northwest we always have mud up here... But I know some rock only trails that you can take well maybe not most riggs come back with body damage also from vancouver it may be a bit of a drive.

well I know it never completely dries up here (I been living here for 16 years...my entire life) its just..the last few years have been quite dry for being the North shore area...and some of the trails only have "puddles" which splash up on the jeep, and you can see it when you get home. For now I will just leave the mud on it, so when i go through mud again you wont notice a difference ;) I also know of some rock trails around here..but they are rare..this area is mainly fraser river clay...and it makes yucky mud (very sticky and slimy, clogs wheels, and you slip all over it..no traction...i almost fell down just walking on it today)
