I'm not sure if D/C has just released this recall, but it's the first i've run across it. I know my wife's 04' liberty has avoided the lower ball joint problem, but we should be getting a notice for this one.

Glad this is happening. My mom has an 02 Libby, that was subjected to the first recall. After having the ball joint replaced, it was ok for a few weeks, then started making the same knocking noise as it did before the ball joint was replaced. Hopefully it's fixed for good this time.

Don't count on it. We're on our third set of ball joints already.

Hm, funny thing is that over here they do not have many probs with the ball... but I think they have a modified suspension for the European versions, that might do the trick

has anyone received a recall notice on this? i haven't heard a word from chrysler yet. makes me a little nervous driving this thing around knowing the front end might fall out of it.

i called chrysler a couple weeks ago. they said the recall notices were sent out starting september 6. they were going to start with the 2002's first. called the dealer yesterday and they said they don't have the parts in stock and had no idea when they would get around to doing my '04. i never had any luck with chrysler products, so far no problems with the liberty, but this whole deal does not do anything to build my confidence in their vehicles. all the more reason to keep my CJ5.

I had mine done well over a month ago. I never had a knocking noise other than turning full lock at a very slow speed, but the Wrangler did that too and I just figured it was how the front ends were.

However, since the recall, the Libby does ride smoother and that knock is gone.

D/C launched recall f23 on older kj's first, figuring age probably meant higher milage (& wear).Call your dealer, give them your vin info.& request they check for any "open recalls" . If yours is due set up an appointment ,you dont need recall mailer to have it performed.

That's right, just check with DC and have it fixed.

Mike, I haven't seen a recall model "in person" but if it's what they were talking about over here the lower ball joint on the front axle becomes kinda lose, makes a klicking noise and if it gets worse you feel it in the steering. DC says it can't fall off but I wouldn't trust them that far. If you stress a part long and/or hard enough it will break and could fall of. To my knowledge no fallen off parts are on record... yet...
To my knowledge only older models are recalled but you can check with DC with the VIN if your wifes KJ is in the recal.
Pure European models don't have that problem since they changed suspension/steering for Europe and they mount the European version of the ball novadays in all Libbys.
