Why not offer the Diesel in the US!?

Because the GVWR is less then 6000 pounds its very hard to get them to pass emissions in the US. Thats the same reason the CRD Liberty is no longer being sold in the US.

DC is working on a cleaner burning diesel which is rumored to be ready by 2008, but even then, its hard to say if they will have one in the US or not.

There are also warranty issues because of the sulphur content of US diesel. That is one of the reasons why VW is no longer selling TDIs after this model year.

I want my Wrangler to be diesel. We need diesel....sulfer content in US diesel? why should ours be different...maybe there IS a conspiracy between automakers, the oil industry and the gov't. There's a reason VW made TDI's but apparently the US doesn't see it that way and wants every one to be completely depentant on gasoline.

Sorry I just had to vent....

i know that 07 diesel pickups, dodge, chev, and ford's say in the owners manual not to use the high sulfur deisel (it is supposed to be gone here soon) the biggest problem facing diesels is the gov and the tree hugging hippy's pushing emission standers that (if it was a gas wouldn't even be thought about) are killing mileage,

but all that said i still want a diesel jeep :(

buy a trashed CRD Liberty and do a swap, the Glad was suppost to be powered by the same engine, the export diesels already are.

I would do it in a heartbeat, I have a great sorce of used fryer oil to make biodiesel but unfortunately I would not be able to get it passed inspections here! I would have to swap back every year to get the inspection.

Get a P.O. box from a small town that does not do emissions.

Looks to me like there is a growing movement towards providing bio fuel, perhaps when it starts to bite into the mainstream diesel market, folks will start paying attention.

I'd take a diesel wrangler over the 4.0 everytime.
