I'd like to install a cage, but have never had to fab one myself. I have a set of welders available (Army-post DIY auto shops are awesome), tube benders and notchers, etc. tools aren't a problem. I just need to see a good design for an internal cage that won't jack up the functioning of the interior or doors. I would actually like to mount the seats on parts of the cage like on my TJ. I have four Jaz off-roading seats mounted on respective mounts right now. I was kinda toying with the idea of mixing square tubing to mount the seats on and using regular 1-1/2 inch tubing for the overhead and sides. I am kinda worried about clearance for my head (I'm 6'3") but not about midsection supports (my seats don't recline anyway).
A lot of my fellow wheelers out here are pretty experienced but only one of them has welded up a roll-bar (note: not a cage). Need a little direction. Thought I'd turn to others that might have had similar problem and found a solution.

This link....

is absolutely AWESOME.
That thing is beautiful! I even saw some features of a cage that I would want already designed in. Handles that double as corner braces.... It has ALL of it! Thanx for the link, if a picture is worth a thousand words, I'm about to hijack a friggin encyclopedia set from those pictures....

I was looking at the bolt-in kit from Rock Hard 4x4 Parts, but.... well, it's a bolt-in cage. I don't trust something that just bolts together. I was thinking about it and decided to hold off on the cage idea for a while. gonna get a set of beadlocks welded up instead. That's gonna siphon off a lot of my cash. Why can't someone make me a cage for free?

I think we would all like a cage for free. some of the bolton ones are pretty nice and strong. YOu could tacweld it were it bolts onto the rig.

I think that I'll end up getting to know the bender and notcher at the shop a lot better. I don't know that even if I got a bolt-in kit that I'll be totally satisfied with it. I DID see soome awesome ideas for joints and even that headrest that's built into the rear of the Rock Hard cage (pretty tricked out). I know that if I want to get exactly what I want, that I'll have to make it myself. Thanks for that first link though JDogg, VERY helpful. I gotta figure out how to connect all of the seats to a cage now...
You know, this'll take about a year to get everything the way that I want and about a week to fab and install, Doh! Always the hard way....

If you head over to http://www.jeepn.org and check out the forums theres a person that goes by the name of peekaboo who has an exocage on their cherokee.
I've seen a few exocages on cherokees and they seem to great.
I did see a bolt in cage for a cherokee once but it was scary. It had this piece that tied into the dash/firewall that had a nice sharp corner on it. the thing looked hungry for blood like it was ready to rip open the first kneecap that got near it.
If you do go wiht a prefab cage make sure to check all pics closely as i can not recal who made the "knee kiiler" cage.

Has anyone in here built one for themselves. And if you have would you be willing to build another. I would pay $200 or maybe a little more if someone was willing to make me one
