It looks just as ugly in person as it does in those stupid bobblehead commercials. I felt sad for whoever was duped or convinced themselves they were getting a Jeep. All they got was the ugly little sister of the Pacifica.

The first one I sold was to some friends that have a 2004 Rubincon and a 2005 HEMI Grand Cherokee.

They bought it as a car to commute in since they have Grandkids in Three Southern States and Middle Texas is one of them.

They love it!

They have them at our dealers, it looks like a nice car, not a jeep...

its Nice anyhow.

Lucky enough they do not have them over here.... yet.... they start selling them next spring and as it seems people are keen on buying them. Might help Jeep to establish the brand a bit more over here.
For me it's still not a Jeep, it's just a car that got some Jeep outfit...

Joel, I agree with you. I saw them at Camp Jeep, and thought they were a neon on steroids.

Greg, I think it is a nice enough looking vehicle, however, I feel that DC is deluting(sp)? the brand, and that it is not a Jeep, but another 4wd car...FWIW

the compass is more of a JEEP than the 2wd JK's... think about THAT!

and if the latest rumor about th gladiator turns out to be true (that is will be built off a dakota platform and not the JK platform) then the compass will be more jeep that the gladiator.

remember... AMC had a 4wd car back in its day!

I wasn't impressed. Neither were any of my co-workers. We had one for a rental in VA. Seemed very cheap and chincy.

it is. I rode in it last night for the first time, and I saw nothing nice about it. Im upset Jeep put their name on it. Oh well Free is free.

a co-worker has the caliber. same thing. He's had nothing but problems. I've borrowed it a couple times. it has more road noise than my JK at 70 mph, it even rides rougher

My Parents have a Compass.....I have not had the pleasure of pounding the crap out of it yet, I mean driving it yet, but they LOVE it. My Dad did all kinds of research on it and the only recurring issue he heard was the engine block heater. So guess what they didn't get?
Garbage trucks hitting your opld car while you are driving on the highway have that effect on research for a new vehicle.
Still looks weird to me too though.

This morning I was startled to find myself behind one at a stoplight...
I say startled because I would never have guessed it was a Jeep until I glanced down at the rear bumper and saw the "compass" logo embossed there.
I would never have expected a Jeep to blend in with the traffic, because I sure don't find that for other Jeep models.

The "noise" comes from the CVT transmission. Turns out there is a belt drive in this tranny.

no, I'm talking road noise from the tires, wind etc.

I'm aware of the belt tranny, you dont feel the shifting, thats actually kinda smooth

I'll throw my input in on this one since I've driven and worked on a lot of them now.

First of all, the CVT transmission makes this thing an insanely boring ride. When I have to road test the Compasses I literally start to fall asleep driving down the highway. Idk if it's just combination of the road noise and the boring ride but wow. Essentially they are the same thing as the Caliber, but at least the Caliber comes in the SRT4 trim whereas with the Compass you just get the Bland trim. Also, they get pretty crappy gas mileage too. In all honesty the thing isn't a Jeep even in the least bit. Nothing about it reminds of a Jeep at all besides it saying Jeep on it and that's it.

i like the patriot better, atleast it kinda looks like a tiny retarted cherokee. a couple people I know use em to go out on gravel roads for camping trips on the weekends and drive to and from work durring the week. they are good for that, decent in the snow as well. they fit in with the vancouvers image of "city in the mountians"
