My buddy just came back from greece and sent me these pictures, figured i'd share just for the sake of sharing...
My buddy was shocked at just how small the smartcars over there are...

Those Smarts are pretty common over here, I don't like 'em too much since they give you a strange feeling when you sit in there.
The engines are turbocharged 0.6 or 0.7 liter 3cylinder gas or 0.8 liter turbocharged diesel engines, automated 6-speed tranmission with loooooong shift gaps. only good thing is that you find a parking space pretty easy, even over here...

;o)
Well, it's a two seater only and room for a handbag.
Mileage isn't as good as you would think, the gas engines are in the 35-40 range in real life (theoretically they are said to reach 50), the diesel in the 45-50 range (theoretically 55), but when you think about the VW/AUDI tdi engines, they are in the 50 and better range as well but with real cars...
Know the best? DC is thinking about launching the Smart in the States next year. So have fun guys :rolling:

actually saw one of those "smart" here in michigan last week, I want one to put in the back of my truck. That way if I break down I can just pull out my spare. Forget spare tires, throw one of these cars in your trunk!!

That's interesting, The guy in the pic had said that they are not here yet because they top out just below 65, therefore aren't practical highway vehicles; apparently in some states they aren't street legal because of it... I wonder how they're going to solve that.

Nah, they do about 75 normally. I wouldn't want to go any faster than that in a Smart :umn:
As far as I know DC is still thinking about launching the Smart in the States, they even added cupholders for the new model they bring for 2008... ;o)

I saw one here in Ohio a while back myself, and it had Florida plates on it, so it must be OK for highway use. I wouldn't drive one, but to each his own I guess.

i bet that cupholders with the weight of a cup of coffee in it would drop the top speed by 10mph. They could however solve that with a NOS sticker. then it would break 80.

Put a NOS sticker and a K&N sticker on it, and it should top out at 85.

Only if they're crooked. you don't get the extra horsepower if they're put on straight.

Just saw a report about the 2007 model, they're saying they have an optional larger 1.0 liter instead of the 0.8 liter engine that betters the mpg to about 60 and reaches 85 mph... and they expanded the interior room by two inches ;o) so they doubled the size... :lewser:

i don't think i'd want to get in a wreck in one of those, although it looks like it might be safer than my neighbors Yugo.

Those little things are damn rigid, they have a rollcage as the basic structure, have seen crash test vs s-class Mercedes'. The Smart did well, the whole cage stayed in place, occupants messured to be safe...
