Well I drive a 4cyl slightly modified with a 5 speed and forget about the fuel economy. A friend of mine also drives a rio grande edition 4 bangger Fuel injection and his is also crapy. Someone once told me that if I wanted fuel economy then why get a jeep. Above the economy, the preformance is great on mine. I've put it thrue hell and wont give up plus it's way lighter.

thanks! sorry to hear the economy is not what the EPA figures list. must not be close even. at least it makes enough power. kinda wondered since i really don't know anyone with a 4 cyl/5speed wrangler getting any great mileage either.

Tire size, rear end ratio, vehicle weight has a lot to do with mileage.I had a 4.2,t5,3.73's,31 in tires, full h/top,winch & 33 gal aero tank on my cj8 and got 18 mpg on a trip.I had it converted to a 4.0 with an aw4 trans and now get 16 mpg but I have better power lots of pickup.

I had a 98 TJ 4cly / 5 speed. Gas millage was around 14mpg. Have a 2001 TJ Sahara 6cly / 5 speed and a buddy has a 98 set-up the same way. Getting about 300 to 325 miles per tank of gas depending on how much city driving. Sad the 6 cly does better on gas than the "I think I can", "I think I can" over-worked 4 cly.
