Just a few pictures of my baby before I turn the wallet loose on her...
My father took these , notice the nice large yellow tweety bird on the hood. The man I bought it off of was, well, whipped. That was her influence. Needless to say, it didn't stay on very long...
This is a recent one, without the top, after I cleaned it up. I removed all the NRA, Union, and Tweety stickers (thank goodness) without much trouble. I need to buff the hood to get the outline of tweety out, but it isn't horribly noticeable.
The date is set, June 14th I'm heading to Columbiana to buy some stuff... Bye bye bank account...

Looks nice...
You can tell by the pics that its obviously an 87.
The black rollbar pads like you have in the picture were never offered for any other year, also the pic with the windows off shows snaps along the tops of the doors (also unique to 87). 87's also had windshield mounted mirrors instead of the door mounted ones. Another unique thing to your jeep would be the little "Jeep" logo on the glove box, although they may have done that for another year or so.
I'm sure the top isnt original but again, 87 was the only year that a "smooth" black vinyl top was available. The later years had the black denim or charcoal color.
A friend of mine in NC had one just like that but I havent talked to him in years... wonder if that could have been his, as he kept everything pristine and in original condition.

If the tweety bird was put on in vinyl, the residue can be taken off with a lil mineral spirits and some paper towels.

My guess would be the paint diferential from the UV rays.. the stickered part was protected, but the other part was faded from the sun. any sticker left on for more thena few sunny months will have that affect

Go to your local body supply shop and ask them for "ebony" from 3M.
It's basically a suspension of volcanic pumice in water, but WILL remove the difference between the paint from sun fade. Apply it SPARINGLY to a buffing bonnet, the random orbit jobs work best. When your done you'll have to re wax, but the fade won't be so obvious.
i use this on the black & white Police cars I service....works great.

Even if the decal has been on for years it will still leave a glue residue on the paint. If you take some mineral spirits and a rag and rub it will come out. I work in a sign shop and have seen all kinds of scenarios. Good luck.

yes....but the paint will not be sun damaged under the decal..and it will be where the decal isnt.....they are trying to solve the problem (if the decal has been on there for a while) that having a bright black tweety bird on the hood and faded rest of the hood

My only suggestion will be for aircraft paint stripper, a sander, and some krylon and maybe some color match paint from the autoparts store. Or earl shives/maaco.
The Jeep looks like it is in great shape though. Have fun building it up.
