View Full Version : Getting the mirrors off the doors

I had a set of Steel Horse mirrors installed so I could take the doors off my hardtop Jeep in the summer. Since my Jeep is white, I opted for the black mirrors instead of stainless steel. Big mistake since I've been plagued with rust so far. Is there a primer that'll stick to stainless steel so I can paint it black? Or should I just buy the mounts that allow me to use my stock mirrors on my YJ?
Thanks in advance. :USA:

Take the mirrors and hinges off and take them someplace to have them painted. I had the same ones and I just got fed up. I am replacing mine with stainless steel. But if you ever get the powder coated stuff, just take it to be painted. That is the best I can tell you.

You pay people to paint your mirrors?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!? Smelling the paint from the spray can is half the fun.

I was going to get them painted to match the factory paint for ha ha's. But I decided against it. Stainless looks much better. (Ooh shiny.) 8)

If it's steel horse theyll rust in about two weeks. My Steel horse tow hooks started rusting about 3 weeks later. Useless company. At least they finally filed Chapter 11. :)

I started hearing some bad things about Steel Horse stainless parts about 6 months ago when I was looking for dress-up parts. They have a bad rep in the Jeep/4x4 community, the bankruptcy thing didn't help matters. I'd suggest finding another vendor, or like I did, go with power-coated parts.

My powder coat were Steel Horse. The stainless are Kentrol. After the whole rust thing on the Steel Horse I won't buy stuff from them again.
