I have a 93 JGC Laredo, I've been having a problem with the steering recently. It's hard to control when the wind's blowing, especially at highway speeds, and bumps make the Jeep go all over the place. I think the shocks are good, it's just the steering. Steering Stabilizer? I'm not sure what could be wrong, the vehicle's stock. Alignment's fine and tires didn't make a difference.

The steering stabilizer could cause problems as you've described but I would also check your ball joints...sounds to me that you've got the beginnings of death wobble if it get tough to handle after hitting some bumps...

I appreciate the info, how can I check the Ball Joints? Is it like when u check the wheel bearings? Jack it up and jiggle the tires in different directions?

Take a floor jack and jack up one tire as close to the knuckle as possible...when it's off the ground grab it at the top and shake...any movement and the top is worn...then take something solid like a fence post, 2x4 etc and wedge it under the tire then lift...again any wear will be evident with some movement.

While you're doing this, also check your tie rods and drag link for wear...with the one tire up still have someone try move the tire back and forth while watching the tie rods etc for any movement...

Any movement in either of these that looks abnormal you're going to want to get checked out...worn ball joints and tie rods aren't something to push...

I am usually on the XJ/ Cherokee forum but I will try to help you.
Check you track bar. It runs from the left side of the frame usually mounted
(looks Like a tie rod) running over to the right side of the axle. Check you tie
rod end at the pitman arm also. I had to replace these items to get rid of my
wondering. An XJ owner.

You can elminate wheel bearing play by pressing in the brake pedal when checking for ball joint play.

easy way to check your tie rod for wear is twist it (bar goin from the drag link to drivers side wheel) It should move a little, but be hard to twist by hand.. if it moves easily, the joints are gone.
