A buddy of mine has a Jimmy, but we don't know how to tell if it is 1/2 or 3/4 ton. Does it matter when ordering a lift kit?
Thanks, James

James.......... Dang. I thought they (Jimmy/Blazer) were all ˝ Ton! http://www.ramblerman.com/blazer/vin.htm
I guess you could run the VIN thru your local Chevy stealership.

I've got a 1990 Jimmy and it's a 1/2 ton. I've never encountered a 3/4 ton Jimmy. Also, it's shouldn't make a difference on the lift since the spring hangars and plates are the same. It's only the spring that makes a 1/2 ton into 3/4.

Jdogg, the only difference that I've ever seen is in the springs. My entire family has owned trucks and the like for as long as I can remember. My Grandfather has a 3/4 ton pick up, long bed, I've got the Jimmy, Mom's got a 97 1/2 ton pick-up and little brother has the 2001 Z71 off road, pick up. Aside from little brothers, they're all virtually identical. My Jimmy is slightly different because it's 4X4 but in the back, they're the same. Only difference are the spring hangars, spring perches, and of course, the springs.
The Jimmy has probably the worst shock design that I've ever seen so that's a bit different as well. By the way, Anyone that has a Jimmy and has figured out how to replace those damn rear shocks easily, PLEASE, let me know.

I have owned:
1978 K20 4x4 long bed
1979 K10 4x4 short bed
1984 K20 4x4 long bed
1976 K5 4x4 Blazer
1979 C10 4x2 long bed
the only difference that I noticed was the axles and leaf springs. The frames all looked similiar(just different lengths)

I had well still do have a 1977 K5 4x4 Blazer cheyenn special. full time 4x4.
and then I had a 84 k5 4x4 blazer that was a pos man. 305 underpowered. leaked like no other ruff ride to it. I just gave it away. called the UCP and got a tax right off on it.

Jdogg, I've got a 1990 and, it rides pretty well. I still need to put shocks on the rear but other than that, it's not too bad. Seems to "float" down the road which I don't really like but it gets me there so I can't complain all that much. I don't take it out much since it's too damn big to get where I want to go but it works nice pulling the boat.

THe suspention of the late modles vs the newer ones is different in the back. my 77 the back end is lower than the frount and the mounting for the shocks is different. than on that 80 model I had. I put new shocks on it and it helped a bit but I still like the ride on my 77 better.

To the best of my knowledge and all of napa cataloging all blazers and jimmys were on 1/2 ton running gear but upgrades to 3/4 ton were common. if it has 8 lugs its for sure its been swaped for 3/4 ton
