So Ive got a 2002 jeep liberty with the 3.7 hotrod engine, LOL!! I was driving down the highway one cold wisconsin january morning with the cruise control set at 65, i let the cruise coast me down a little hill then we start pulling the grade, once atop the grade and going down the back side, i look down and low and behold, im doing 80 freaking mph! Thats a big problem. So i tap the brake to turn off the cruise and this thing is still rocking and rolling. So i hit the off switch on the cruise, the cancel switch on the cruise all the switches, and no response. I manage to wear the pads off and get her to stop on the side of the road, the engine is still pulling against me the whole time. I shut it off, and start it back up, and the poor 3.7 redlines and so i shut it off again and jam the pedal to the floor a few times and start it back up and it runs at an idle. I bring it to the dealer and he says theres nothing wrong with it. I said thats funny to me because i work on heavy equipment for a living and i know as well as anyone that everythings fixable. So he tells me that moisture MAY build up in the throttle body and cause it to freeze while traveling at highway speeds on COLD HUMID days only. Anyone have any input on this one please let me know.

:lam: This is what i think of the Service Manager that told me that.

I've heard of old 1 barrel carbs Icing up, even had it happen on my 44 dodge power wagon, when it was -10! But in a throttle body? Not likely! Especially once the engine is up to operating temp. More likely the cable or diaphram that runs the cruise has moisture in it, and may have froze up. (Not sure what type of crise is on the newer vehicles) If thats the case, WD-40 will displace the moisture and lube it at the same time. I agree with your thoughts on the service guy!:umn:

i had that same problem with a ford mustang. it wouldn't speed up but it wouldn't release. took it back to the dealer and he said he had three others doing the same thing and they couldn't figure out what the problem was. the car was still under warranty and they knew the problem was somewhere in the cruise control but they refused to replace it or even look at it. i would have owned that dealership if that would have caused an accident. best advice, don't use the cruise when it's cold. i spun the wife's liberty a full 360 on a bridge that was iced over because of the cruise control. never hit a thing but now if it's cold enough for the bridges to freeze, i turn off the cruise.

Which Stealership in Wisconsin? Just curious. I had a run in with the service mismanager at Uptown in Slinger.

My upper crontrol arms for rear snapped clear off. The service mismanager asked where I was driving. I said "It says trail rated on the side but I was in a Pick N Save parking lot". Needless to say I had to pay.

Strange; when I snapped my rear drive shaft, They covered that.

No need to worry anymore, Now I've got 70,500+ miles on it.
