What do yall think would be the best choice for a deep throaty kinda sound. I want to install myself and just want a bolt on, cheapest but still a decent muffler. I was looking towards the Cherry Bomb or a Glasspack. What do yall think. Oh yeah its for an 87 4.2 carburated with auto tranny.

I had a Thrush on my 1980 CJ5 (4 cylinder) and it woke the whole neighborhood.

Does it have a Catalytic converter on it? If so, the glass pack does not have a very good sound IMO. Little to restricted with the cat. Also, the I-6 just does not sound right compared to a v-6 or v-8, not as much of a "rumbling" sound.

So what all would yall suggest? Im looking at the glasspack.

Try going to a local muffler shop and asking them what they have around on their cars and see what they sound like. I personaly like the Flowmaster muffler.

If you like the Flowmaster, try a Pilot. They sound the same (to me anyway) and they cost less. Meineke carries the Cherry Bomb II, it's inlet/outlet is set up like a Flowmaster.

I have the Flo-Pro muffler. I didn't necessarily get it for the sound (I-6) just for the better flow.

i have a thrush on my 94' I-6 and it sounds beast when i am taking off...sitting it just kinda humms...but my sound could be bad reference due to the fact that its got about 4 big dents from my driveshaft hitting it when my Ujoints broke (big being the muffler is about 3/4 - 1/2 normal diameter where it hits

turbo mufflers sound about the same as flow master, and they flow good too.......i saw the ugliest thing, it was a wrangler that had a 4.o HO sticker, and it had dual outputs....about the only jeep i like with duals is the cj's with 304s with side exits

I put a Flowmaster on 2001 TJ 4.0
If you want the benefit of a Flowmaster, but want little increase in sound, then go with the 50 series part # 94-2552
But if you're like me and want the sound, then the 40 series is for you: part # 94-2542

i have a 97 with the 2.5 L, and a intake with tb spacer, i was looking at and exhaust, do i go from the header back, or just the cat-back, due to loss of back pressure. i keep hearing 4 banger need a good amount of back pressure to run well. Could i hollow out my cat instead of buy i high flow one?

Choice! is there more mufflers out there other than Flowmasters. I put them on everything I build you pay a little more but you cant beat the sound and you will never have to replace them :D :D :D :D

Jeep3037, the 4-Banger needs very little back-pressure. With no back-pressure at all, you will lose a little low end torque. You'll need the torque if you're a crawler. For mudders and daily drivers, no cat and a glass pack will do just fine.
You can hollow out or scrap the cat if you don't have emission testing in your area. No cat will probably increase your MPGs.
