You're best bet, although not necessarily a cheap one, is to get ahold of a new Flaming River column. I bought 2 used columns that both turned out to be crap before getting smart.

I too tried a used column and was really pi$$ed when it didn't work. I ended up going to IDIDIT, to get mine. Flaming river has a link directly to them and they've got quite a selection.

I bought a used column for my '79 CJ 7. It worked out OK. All I needed was the collar where the key fit. The rest was junk. I'd go with the new column.
