Are there going to be any changes to the '08 JK that would make it worth waiting for an '08 instead of buying a '07?

:cool2:

I've heard some engine management software upgrades for better driveability (i.e., little more low end torque) on the engine, but that's it. No actual mechanical changes that I know of.

Cool well I drove a '07 JK for the first time...it was an Unlimited model...and it was VERY nice to drive. Almost couldn't even tell it was solid axle...it drove like an IFS truck. But the 3.8L is truly a dog especially when trying to pass someone. I don't know how guys drive them with 35s. I guess you have to run 4.88s, huh? :)

I'd give my left nut to have one of those JK's though...might have to call the dealer today and see if they could work me a deal.

Clifford, you must have been driving an auto. My JK Unlimited with the 6 speed and 4.10's has no problem passing, with 33's and 5th or 6th works just fine to pass people. I don't seem to understand why people seem to get the feeling that the V6 isn't all that great. Runs better than the 4.0 that was in my 99 XJ, 04TJ, or the wife's 98XJ. But thats just me, I'm used to the 4 angry squrrels in my 95 YJ! haha

I dont get it either, my JK hauled ***, with stock gears and 4:10's.

It hauls *** on 35's as well...5.13's might help a little.

to answer you question, The Rubicons the only JK getting 4.10 gears, the rest are getting 3.73's from what I've read. Other than some minor trim level changes. Nothing big.

Did you get the re-call notice to upgrade the software on the computer ?. Got mine flashed about a month ago. Stalled twice on me but I thought that was kinda normal till the safety re-call notice came. No problems since the upgrade..

So I heard the 08's are getting the tire pressure monitoring system....is that only for the Sahara's or also the Rubicons?

can't remember this being answered.

Well....this thread is about a month old now, but for future reference.....

From what i can gleam from the 2008 brochure...

4:10's are now only on Rubicons. All non rubi auto's and tow pkg models now get 3:73 gears. BOO!
Somewhat off-setting this is the fact that the rear Dana 44 is now standard across the board.

I saw no mention of a tire pressure monitor system, but a remote start system is available now.

It appears that the sway-bar disconnect and rear e-locker are no longer available on the Sahara model ( ??? ), but are still on the X.

In 2007, it appeared from Jeeps web site and brochure ( and from statements of certain magazines ) that the "freedom top" on the Rubicon was only available if you got the dual top option ( although i suspect that might not have been the case ). This year the hard top is available by itself.

I seen that they are making Unlimiteds like the 2004-2006 models. They will be the 2008.5

TPM is Tire Pressure Monitoring system. It's a stupid name though, because it's not monitoring the pressure of the tires, it's monitoring the pressure of the air IN the tires. Who knows where they come up with some of this stuff...

in the sahara trim it now has a "chrome" looking center section on the bumper and silver trim around the vents.

TMPS better come on the rubicon, offroading it would be kind of interesting to be able to monitor the pressures (for instance my right rear can't hold anything over 15psi right now, would be nice to watch that).

I've been screaming since they did it on the Liberty's that those cheap plastic fenders make a car look cheap. Buck the the extra 25.00 per fender in cost and make everything match the vehicle. First thing I'm doing when I buy my red Rubicon is paint all the fenders red.

Doesn't TPMS make it harder to add aftermarket wheels and tires? That would suck.

NMJeeper

Well the aftermarket sensor systems are just a strapped sensor that spins around the wheel so it should be just as easy to swap as those. Wonder how long the batteries last? course the engineers should make the batteries self charge with the motion of the wheels spinning.
