I have an 88 wrangler 258 Carter bbd 4.2. It runs a little rough when cold but when it warms up it seems to idle and run fine. But after some highway driving and you slow down to pay a toll, stop or turn it stalls. It starts back up fine but then it will keep stalling. After about 20 mins of restarting and driving it runs good again. I had the carb rebuilt and put in a new engine. I think it is the choke? Any one have this problem before. I'm going to switch to a weber carb.

I was told to unplug the connector on the tranny. They seem to have a problem with the torque converter not unlocking. If the problem does not happen again thats the problem. That was my problem. But since yours is a manual it is something different.

I deal with this question everyday. From 81 to 90 amc put the carter carb on all 4.2 motors. They have a computer controlled choke that is junk and when the actual choke goes bad it screws up the whole carb no matter how many times you rebuild it. There are 3 things you can do. put a weber on it,fuel injection or do the nutter bypass that eliminates the computer. It is also said to give you better gas mileage. In your search engine go to nutter bypass and it should give you detailed instructions.

i was looking at doing a nutter bypass but i think it would just be better for me to get a weber carb. do u think the weber carb would stop my stalling problems??

Absolutely, You also disconnect the computer when you install the weber carb. The weber also comes with everything needed for installation.

I just installed the weber. It runs smooth but it still has a little mis in the idle. I think it is from the computer so I going to diconnect all the vacuum switches and do the nutter bypass to see if that helps? I'll let you know
