I always wanted to go to Barrow, Alaska.... you know just drive there like the Smiths did way back when. I just don't think that I'll want to start from the bottom of South America, start from say, Seattle.

I know, not very realistic, but we all have to shoot for something...

Now see I wanted to take one of those cruses were they haul your car up with you then you just drive back home. I think that would rock.

They do that? That would rock! Forget what I said about Kathy Lee Gifford, if Carnival is doing that I'd sign up for it.

let me check into it. my parents neighbor did it about 4 years ago. He shot over 500 pic's on his drive home. and 100 on the boat. There not the full size cruse liners but they just drive your jeep up into it and your off.
He even had a trailer cause he did it in his cj.

:D Just what were looking for. Thanks

He took a trailor with two spare tires for that, and two spare tires for the jeep. by the time he made it back home he had to have all 6 tires patched atleast once and 3 other one twice. the trailor he bought a new tire for that so he witn thru two he said just got trashed and the second set almost went out on him so he bought a spare just in case. it was a small rim spare the tires were only like a foot and a half tall. other than that and some road kill he said no big problems. He said take jerry cans for gas cause you will go for miles with out a gas stop. he had two tanks and almost ran out at two different times. he pulled off the main road to do some 4 wheeling here and there. He said if he would have stuck to the trail there would have never been a issue. but what fun would that be right. O one problem he came out of a gas stop and a moose was rubbing his antlers on his jeep to get that winter coat off of them.

That's exactly what I want to do. I am sick and tired of the weekend thing here. I am an experienced back-country camper and I wanted to take this sport to the "next level" if you will. I've done a lot of week-long-plus trips with my TJ, but nothing where a moose wanted to &$# my jeep. I wanted to try something like the boat-trip with my XJ for some time. Thanks for the heads up.

Just an FYI if you do take that trip and plan on camping. I would pack some heat. And if you do that read up on those canadian gun laws first.

I want to take my Gramps on a hunting trip to Colorado. Drive the jeep, camp out in a place that we've never been, and hunt Colorado Muley's.

Hey jdogg, you're from Colorado. Any ideas on how to set something like that up without spending an arm, left nut, and three toes?

I don't think so. all the territorys are different but I do know at one point ok don't know for sure but have heard weapon permits are hard to get up there and it has to be a hunting rifle. Yet I have heard stories about people backpacking with 44s and 45s

Well, I know that when entering a National Forest that you can't carry a concealed weapon. But that's probably different if it's a state forest. Anyhow, I have friends that are assigned to Fort Richardson in Alaska and most of them have firearms collections.

One of these guys I am almost certain has made a Do-It-Yourself move up there, meaning he moved all of his stuff himself. That included his firearms, I am just not sure how the Cannucks handled him transporting his guns.

I am sure that there are allowances for U.S. citizens moving firearms throught B.C. and the Yukon (to get to Alaska, of course ;) )

I just need to find out what they are.

But seriously, don't try to sneak something into Canada, the Mounties aren't to be f$@!ed with, especially with recent events. The Dudley-DoRight characters of yore have been replaced with bad-a$$es.

I've gone thru the border check a few times. Once in high school. we were on our way up to play some summer hockey up there (got our A$$ handed to us by kids 2 years younger than us. Long painfull storie there)
and they border guys comes on the bus walks up and down a few times doing a quick over look check the bathroom then asked if we had tobaco beer and knifes or guns we all said no. Then the smart A$$ had to say what about fireworks it was the end of june and he had some ??? the kid got a beeting for that one. They made us all get off take all the bags out lay everything out clothes hockey gear everything so they could go thru it. it took over 1 hour and a half to get thru the check point. SO don't joke with them when going thru the boarder checks.

I thought we had a canuck on this board.

Last summer myself and two buddy's road out Enduro's from Seattle up through whitehorse on up to Fairbanks then up to the Artic circle!

My bike is a Suzuki DRZ400 there was a Honda 600 and a KTM 620.

There is a book that you can order called the Milepost... everything you need to know about driving to Alaska.

http://www.themilepost.com/

We looked at taking the ferry or as they call it in Alaska " Alaska Marine Highway" but the cost is very high and it takes like 7 to 10 days to ferry up.

Bud, you are my new hero. I have always wanted to take a trip to a place like Tierre Del Fuego or the Darian Gap or (ahem) Barrow, Alaska. It's motivating to hear from someone who's actually done something similar. ...Keeps the dream alive, ya know?

I was reading about the Trans-Labrador Highway in this month FourWheeler mag and that would probably be the cool trip for me. The only problem would be the cold weather. So I think I would like to take a drive down through Mexico and down to Guatemala or Honduras again, or maybe to belize and get a little diving in. Got some awesome sights down there and occasionally you need the 4wd on the highway.
