It depends on the size of your engine, if it's a 4.0 or higher it'll push 33's just fine. To recoup that available power though, re-gearing is an option that remains yours. In short, you don't NEED to, unless you have a four cylinder. But it's still a good idea that I'd get around to if I were you.

I have a TJ Sport Automatic it came with the 30 inch tire and wheel group and 3.73:1 gears . I put 4inch lift and 33 on it and it is fine with stock gearing. My GPS reads 57 mph with the speedometer at 55 mph . Hope that helps. :)

I have a 2002 TJ with the 4.0L. I have the 2.5" Skyjacker suspension lift with 33x12.50 tires. I would highly recommend the gear change. This is something I have been dreading but i need to do it because so much power is lost from stock. All your shifting points are messed up, resulting in terrible gas mileage. I'm going to get either 4.56 or 4.88 gears. I think the 4.88s would be better because they allow for bigger tires. The drawback for the higher gears is lost top speed. I would rather give up top speed than all my power down the tubes. Hope that helps. -(ChriS)- :g

Well, it's hard to say. You didn't tell us what gear ratio you're presently running. 4.11:1 will work alright for a daily driver, it's a little high for a rock crawler. If you're running 3.07:1, 33" tires are gunna suck. I'm running 3.73:1 and that would just get me into the power band if I ran 33"s.

It depends on what you want the 33"s to do. Mud, crawl, daily driver, best MPGs, max torque?

Good point. I just assumed that It was gonna be used for daily driving and trail-running.

Is it an automatic or manual? 4 or 6 cyl? What gears do you currently have?

Well, with that setup, 33's woud work as is, but you are geared more toward street/highway driving, but off road would still be acceptable, so long as your not doing major rock crawling. You will definatly notice a hit in acceleration on the street.
