I wanted to put a v/8 in my jeep and found it would cost way to much to do, so I would like to know if i could put a v/6 engine in it without changing all the gears. It is a 4 cylinder auto. I also would like to put a tranny from the v/6 in it.

Several issues with this. The only real difference in price between a V-6 and V-8 swap is the price of the motor. Also, what motor are you looking at? What are your current gears? What type of transmission, auto or manual, 4 speed or 5, with or without overdrive? Will it mount to your transfer case.

 I have a crate 350 w/350hp that I wanted to put in my jeep. every one tells me that I have to change the front and rear gears, or the torque will tear them up. So I am trying to find out if a v/6 from a chevy blazer would work, so I wouldn't have to change everything. It has a 2.5 4 banger in it now with a 3 speed automatic. I would have to get a adapter so I could change my transfer case to the chevy. The only thing I know is my jeep is a 1995 wrangler YJ and everything on it is stock. I don't know what they came from the factory with, but that's whats in it.

I read a writeup somewhere on a 4.3 vortec blazer motor and 4 speed auto being put into a jeep, don't remember if it was the YJ or TJ. Was not a real big deal except for the computer hook up and something with 1 of the headers. I will se if I can find it.

sorry i am a little late on this one. I went with the 4.3. I learned that there was a lot more things than i had originally anticipated. Make sure you think everything through. I kept my old transmission(cj). Either way you will have to change a lot. Good luck, i am done with my conversion and happy with it.

I was fooling around with some numbers a few months back thinking I could dump a 318 Dodge into a '95 YJ. With a complete drive line out of a donor vehicle, adapters and a little fab work the bottom line was about $2000 - $2500. I figure a 350 Chevy swap would cost about as much.
The factory gear ratio for a 2.5L YJ with an auto tranny is 3.73, you can check the tag under the diff. cover bolt to make sure.

Hello there, the V8 conversion is going to run you the same cost as swapping a V6 motor. I have a 1994 jeep wrangler and I built a 305 to 310 with 345HP,it cost me $4500.00 on the whole conversion. I have a 350 Turbo Trans,it is 2wd not a 4wd (for street use only!!) I spent $1300.00 on the Trans from Jaspers. I spent the rest on the motor and the driveshaft tubeing. I'm using the stock Dana 35 rear with the 355 gear and It do's great for crusing around and driving it as a daily driver. The rear axles will not last if you do alot of Offroading and having a heavy foot on the pedal. If you go with a V8 I would order the Saddle mount from advance adapters, you will have to use a electric fuel pump for the conversion because of clearence. I'm using my stock electric fuel pump with a fuel regulator and it pumps enough gas to the Holley 670 Dual Fed carb. You can use your stock driveshaft but you will have to get it retubed. I got my 3 core Radiator from tellico for the bolt right up coversion. I got my V8 conversion headers from Hedman headers. I got my 350 turbo mounts from Novak conversions. V6 or V8 your looking about the same on everything I just told you for the V8 conversion. If you go with a V6,the chevy 4.3 liter is a nice pick. As long as you have the right tools and the time and money you will be fine on doing the conversion. My job is not that great it took me 10 months on my conversion. So I took my time in reading Books and asking around how to do what I need to do. I done everything myself which makes me feel good. I know what I have in the motor and know how to fix a problem if something comes up because aI know what I put in my conversion. Well enough typing for now. I wish you luck.

:D thanks to everyone for the info on my engine swap. I will be doing a 4.3 vortex in the near future. Already have engine and tranny (4wd) 700r4. I think I will be alright with doing this. Thanks again
