I agree that you should review the stuff that other clubs have to offer.
Here is how I would go about it if I were to try to start an actual "club".
1- Find a couple friends that have jeeps and are wiling to take on this task with you.
2- Get together and figure out a snazzy name for your club. Maybe something that has to do with the location you are from. Also figure out what your club will be about. Are you a club that every level jeeper can join? Are you a club for restored jeeps only? Maybe a club that focuses on rock crawling? Can an owner of any model jeep, even a patriot or compass join?
3- Spend the 8 bucks or so a year to register a domain name for that club, something like http:// www. TheClubNameYouPick. com
4- Set up a page with some information about what your club is about. Post some contact information incase anyone wants information on joining.
5- Contact local jeep dealers and see if they will post a paper on a board somewhere with club information such as the website, contact info, etc..
One big thing you should do is join a local jeep club and see how they run things. Take what you like and learn from what you did not like and use that as a means of helping to start your own club.
You should look into liabilty issues when you do stuff as a club. This is something that you should probably talk to a lawyer at a later date, but for now, contacting someone in a BOD position in an established club will probably shed some good light on the issues involved. I am not too schooled on all the legal issues, but you may run into some legal problems if someone wheels with you and they get hurt or mess up their heep. Some people just don't understand that if they broke it, it is their fault and not to blame the people they are wheeling with. In order to join the two clubs I belong to, we had to sign waivers. Every person that goes on a trail ride has to have a signed waiver, even if they are just a passenger and not necessarily a member of the club.
We have started an online club for military folks. We do not want to really call it a club, more of a meeting place for jeepers with similar interests (they are in the military or have been). We got a logo designed that is going to be put into stickers for the members to put on their rigs. It is pretty cool. In the future we may move to a full fledged club, but for now we are happy doing what we are doing. We even have a bunch of people that are in one area that get together to grab a bite to eat and wrench.
Good luck starting your club. Here is our logo and sticker design.
