This thing rocks, helped get me unstuck a few times. its nice cause its compact and it fits in the back of my jeep. and i can change it for what i need it to do. and its quick to put it togeather and to tear it apart again.

I've got a Hi-Lift. Whats the difference between the two?

dont forget, that you should make little brackets to hold the high lift foot, on your truck (the best way is a upsidedown U that a bolt can run through thefoot of the highlift) and have a good base, to prevent a "flop" of the highlift..

I was looking at that before and like the idea.Is it good and solid? No wiggling and stuff coming apart. Right now I've got all that stuff in seperate tools and usually forget to load something.Hook it all together and use it in the yard for something and let us know how solid it is.

its pretty solid. little to no wiggle at all and it stays togeather. heres a example of how compact the bag is. it fits on the floor in the rear with no problem, from tranny tunnle to the door, and theres still room for passengers to put their feet on the side its on. might want to toss in a file in the bag for the ax to make sure its always sharp. it should be added to the list of things to carry in a jeep. imo

Good report....people forget to use a file to sharpen an axe. You sold me. Now will you come and clear some brush for me? My zombies will watch over you....well maybe.

Good report....people forget to use a file to sharpen an axe. also a pair of good mechanics gloves, or work gloves should be a must in the bag as well.

safety glasses are a must when using that axe or hammer. hard to get off the trail when your blind. just a reminder

I just got one too! And I really like it a lot. It's heavy and seems well made can't wait to use it on something or somebody!!! I have one question and that is if you lose one of the little clips can you get them at a local HD or do you have to write the company for replacements! Haven't lost one yet but only have had it for a few days and I know I WILL lose one!!! Sorry for the slight hijack?

FYI - Answered my own question - yes you can get the clips at Home Depot - not exactly the same but they will work!!!!!

ive been wheeling for years and ive never once said man i wish i had a shovel axe sledge hammer or pic axe. if you need to use these things to get unstuck on the trail your doing something wrong or you shouldnt of been on the trail in the first place. you could use that stuff around the house. but on the trail if you get stuck are you gonna spend five hours digging out your axle or have someone pull you out? and what are you going to do with the axe chop down a tree thats in your way? doesnt that go against the tread lightly motto that we are all supposed to be following? as far as a sledge hammer goes are you gonna brake up the huge bolders that your jeep cant get over? good luck and hope you dont throw out your back. and the pic axe im not shure what you would use that for maybe to move some rocks around that you should of drove over or if you couldnt get over go around. they shure got you guys. 157 dollars for something you dont really need on the trail in the first place. buy these tools seperate for around the house and save yourself alot of money. if you can name me one good reason for having even one of these tools out on the trail i will send you a hundred dollars.

Gez - Don't get all excited! Maybe I like to be prepared cause this week alone:
Used the shovel part to help put out a fire that somebody started with a cig!
Used the axe to help clear some brush the fire was burning!
Used the sledge hammer part to help put on some heavy parts on a tractor!
And used the pic axe to clear rocks out a culvert!
I glad I had it cause I can leave all the separate stuff at home and save space and everything works great and took only a few minutes to get it out and ready to use!
Oh well guess I just like gizmos??? Oh and I have been wheeling for almost 40 years and can think back on dozens of times I could have used this tool on camping trips, on the ranch, rescue operations and in fires! No it is not as good as having the best equipment alround but I'm in a Jeep with limited space and like the idea of the breakdown so everything can be stored in the back without it hanging on the hood or bumper!!!
Anyway - I just had to respond! Keep your money cause now you only need another
$ 57 and you too can have one! Have a nice day!

when i was young, wheeling alone. you know how I got out? a shovel bottle jack and come-a-long my dad gave me.

shovels are great for more than just digging out. good for clearing creek enterences, (washouts are common here) need to dig out a fire pit?

axe=fire wood! woot!

pick axe... I wish I had one of these at a campsite in the north, when a previous camper was careless when he had a campfire, and it started burning underground!

have a shovel in their group when wheeling is just a n00b. you never know when it will be handy. we are jeepers, we are suposed to be prepaired. being un prepaired is for yota and ford guys, who bring girls but no TP, so the girls get mad and jump in the jeep that does have TP (living by experience)

we have also used the axes to build wedges to get traction in mud. works well. We tread lightly, but theres athing called natural resources up here in BC, if you NEED to cut a tree to cross the trail, A-OK, just keep it clean. need to cut trees to make a redneck bridge for washouts? A-OK.
ok my b!tch fest is over :)

Wow, this post was completely out of line!! I have the Hi-Lift handle all. It was a Christmas present, but its a very handy tool to have. Just because you dont think you need it, doesn't mean its not needed! It was the Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice for best product at the 2007 SEMA Show.

You've clearly never done much wheeling outside of the mud holes in NW Ohio!

Axle: Clear a fallen tree that is across a trail (when a trail has a bank on both sides, and the tree is across that at windshield level, you can't just drive over it)
Sledge: I have used my BFH on almost ever trail ride I've ever been on! Fix broken parts, do body work for clearance after a rock smashes something
Pick Ax: Ever been camping while wheeling? I've used a folding camp shovel to try and dig a trench around a camp fire, but a pick ax makes it 10x easier!
Shovel: Ever been camping while wheeling? I have, and a camp shovel is the first thing I pack! I always have a folding camp shovel in my Jeep, now I can have a full sized shovel!!

This forum is for people to give reviews of products they have, and have used! Its not here for you to give your opinion of what you think of a product you have NEVER used!

You can send my $100 now!!

Maybe you should brush up on Boy Scouting 101, BE PREPARED!

i cut down alot of trees on the trail!

before you get all crazy my club is part of the adopt-a-trail program. trees fall across the trail all the time and if they are not cut out of the way the trail becomes impassible and is closed to the public.

now this being said there's only one problem i have with said product. when swinging an axe the proper way requires you to slide one hand down the handle. the handle all makes this difficult. as a handy little tool for most this is fine but when your planning on using it very often as i would it not so cool. so i keep my axe and shovel strapped to my roll bar.

got nothing against people removing trees that block the trail as long as its done cleanly, as well as removing trees for firewood, dont make a mess and dont make it a future fire hazard! if I could afford one of these, I would buy one!

one good reason huh.........

well you ever been wheelin in the snow? you ever get stuck in the snow? it would be easier to use this tool for removing the snow under your vehicle than your arms and hands. thats one good reason i can think of, and there are alot more reasons also. now send me my $100!!

what kind of wheeling do you do? i'm curious.

If i didn't have a 3 page list of repairs to do, i'd be spending $$ on this bag. It wouldv'e been put to GOOD use the past 3 years considering the wheeling we've done and obstacles we had to overcome.

thanks for the review hotrod.

Yeah, that was little uncalled for...x2 on everything anyone said about camping, but what about people who would use it for land management..or fire runners? I can see how easy it would be to forget the pick ax then need it, I personally don't need the tool, but it would be nice to have it all IF and WHEN you need it.

Neat that it's workin' out for you.
Funny, I was actually considering doing the shovel and axe brackets on the tub, like the ol' military jeeps had.
Nice review, thanks for the input.

And as to the nay-saying crowd... all it takes is coming back out a logging road in the Maine woods to find downed trees in your path, and you'll definitely wish for an axe (I keep a small, Scout-type axe in the Jeep already, and my shovel is a collapsible snow-shovel also on board).

Any time. just figured i would share how well this is worked for me. Figure people have seen it but they were waiting for someone else to put a review up before they buy it.

Got one on my wish list...
Thinking of fabbing up a Pulaski head for it when I get one. That would be quite useful IMHO.
