i want to replace my rear bumper on a 95 YJ but when i unbolted the gas tank plate bolts the whole tank started to drop. I know that i will have to grind/cut off the bumper since it is welded on, but how do you keep the gas tank up if you don't put on a bumper with the ability to reattach the gas tank bolts?

I believe what you think is the bumper is actually the frame end-brace. It should have a series of holes that are used to attach the bumper/bumperetts to.

Whad Joker said. the YJ just has 2 "bumperetts", no long bumper.

Thats the rear frame brace you do not want to cut on it. The rear bumper will bolt on to it. You will have to buy or make a rear bumper cause there are just two bimperettes on the rear.

okay here's the problem: i bolted(6 bolts w/double washers and lock nuts) on a 1/2 " piece of angle iron with a 2" receiver hitch and when i pulled a 15 foot jon boat with it, the whole thing bent down. any suggestions on how to "beef" up the rear end so that i can pull boats/out of mud holes with it.
