Hey guys,

I'm looking into swaping out my t-18 for something that has an overdrive. My CJ is a daily driver so I am in desperate need of an overdrive but I don't want to sacrifice my low end in the swap. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is out there? Is the NV4500 my only option? and have any of you done this swap? I'm pretty mechanical, but the whole idea of swapping my tranny makes me a little nervous as I've never seen it done nor has any of my family or friends ever done it. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt...

The NV4500 is probably your best option. The only other real option that you would have is maybe a Clark 5 speed although it is probably a little bigger and would probably be a little more expensive to mount. Swapping a NV4500 into your rig wouldn't be all that difficult(not too much tougher than changing a clutch). The biggest thing is that it is expensive. You will probably have to get a new clutch, bell housing, clutch linkage and a transfercase adapter. You are looking at probably around 1000 dollars in adapter parts not counting the cost of the tranny. Good luck with your decision....
