A friend at work was wanting to know if anyone has similar problem with 02 liberty, overdrive not kicking in? He has v6, auto and said it did work, took it to the shop and they said no problem. I will try to get more facts, since he doesnt have a home pc. He states at 60 mph. the overdrive works and that it use to at35mph. He states the owners manual says that it should engage at 35, dont know myself, I told him the 4wd web sight has info. on any jeep. Thanks for any thoughts. I told him about the lifted libertys that what he should so with his but theres always a money issue.

Mine's an '07 (obviously), but I've not run across anyone fussing about their overdrive on an '02.
Some other issues with '02's have been discussed on LostKJ's, but I'll have to check on that one... will let you know what I see.

edit:
OK, there are some transmission issues for a number of years/models.
See thread here:

Also worth checking your friend's Libby against any outstanding recalls... there have been several "things" that needed to be looked at as they continued to tweak this model into some semblance of Jeepability.

You'll see better fuel efficiency in 3rd gear @ 35mph. I turn my OD off as soon as I get in. We discussed this on the KJ forum and the general consensus was that unless you're holding 52-55mph (or thereabouts) for a significant period of time, then you're better off leaving the OD off and staying in 3rd gear.
