Hey guys,

I've got a 1999 XJ that I've put a 2" suspension lift on to just give me a little more fender clearence on my 30's. Since doing this I have developed a vibration that I have been unable to locate. It feels and sounds like it is originating in the tranny/t-case area or possibly the drive line. It only occurs just after accelerating, (the point where you accelerate to speed and let off the gas a little to maintain a certain speed. It also does it a little when I let off the gas as I crest over a hill etc).

Does anyone have any ideas? I've checked my clearences and nothing seems to be rubbing or hitting, that might generate this vibration.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Matt...

Somewhat comen on the 97+ models you will get vibs. with just a 2 inch lift you could try a transfer case drop pretty cheap. But the main way to solve vibes is the SYE kit Not cheap. There are a few different ones out there RE has a hack and tap system were all you have to do is well hack part of the output shaft and tap it and bolt everything togather or the other ones were you have to crack open the t-case. I didn't want to open the t-case cause of warrenty issues and well i hate dealing with stuff like that so I got the hack n tap.

I agree, sounds like you need a slip yoke eliminator. But why not make the whole thing worth your while and raise it a little more?

(deadpedal injects Inchitis virus into Watkins' arm... )

you could try and shim the rear end and see if that helps. but like what diadpedal said if you end up having to get the sye get a bigger lift to go with it.

I was puzzeld by the fact that you seem to have a noticable vibration after just a 2-inch lift, this didn't happen to mine until after I got a four-inch lift. Check your driveshaft for increased wear at the inside of the slip-yokes or on other parts of the u-joint assemblies. You may have premature wearing there.

Don't worry, if you have this serious sort of metal-to-metal wear, you'll be able to tell. I don't think you do, but checking won't hurt.

A two-inch lift is a reasonable mod, you shouldn't already be feeling any differences in your driveshaft with such a short lift.

97+ modles are known to do some strange things. I've talked to guys with 4 inch lifts and nothing as were other only but on a 2" BB and they end up getting vibes. I would to a tcase drop there cheep and shim the back end do you have the 8.25 or the other rearend. either way try one of those two.

yeah mine did some vibing after lifting so i did a 1" t-case drop & fixdit all up, no more vibers.
the kit from Rustysoffroad cost me I think $20 cash & carry,
you'll of course have to add shipping,
& no matter what kit you chose if you have trouble w/ the oem bolts on the t-case x-member wrench em out w/ a pipe wrench

shoot them up a few times with some wd40 that helps a bit.

wd40 in one hand & crap in the other & see which one fills up 1st,

I just didn't take the time & didn't care about the oem bolts 'cause cuz the new ones were there & the day light was burning.

oh yeah liquid wrench might have helped also, don't forget that

Jdogg4- don't take my sarcasism seriously I know what you mean.

liquid wrench thats what I was trying to come up with. I've just broke off too many bolts and then had to tap and drill them out and that $ucks. I use it as a good excuse to just sit in the garage on your creeper and drink a few beers. you know spend some quality time with the jeep. I mean you got to give your woman something to complain about right.

Now that you brought that up, I've GOT to come up with a better way of hiding my empties than the floorboards. Some quota-happy patrolman is gonna throw me in the pokey if I don't clean it up... LOL

It hasn't been in one piece since August.... Hrmph. Well, when it's ready to roll again I have to get the empties out. I don't have a problem (denial). I rarely ever drink.... (schnapps) I hate drinking...... (warm beer) I never get drunk..... (when I'm asleep).
