Gas prices such as they are, we're all looking to increase fuel efficiency. There are many magazines, websites, and tv shows that conduct performance comparisons?

Is anyone aware of comparison testing against those products that offer the ability to tune their engine by the push of a couple soft keys? I can't find any.

thats because they dont do anything.. unless you have a stroker. your gona get more power by the two simple things, easy air in, easy air out. any restrictions starves power, and if the engine has to work harder it sucks more gas. my 4.7L stroker gets 19mpg at 70 mile an hr, but it has ballanced crank, rods, pistions, harmonic ballancer and flywheel (everything being ballanced takes less power] port and polished, oversized valves, banks header, and 2000 intake. (and this is on the xj, 33s and 3.55 gears]

so simply, dont waist money on a comp tuner, just get the air in and out easier, tune it well, new bearings in your pulleys (This can starve hp as well] and you can expect a couple mpg gain as well as a few hp on the butt dyno.
