anybody have any experience with kilby enterprises? i've heard they make good products and they have the gas tank skid i want. i was told that because of the market they quit selling to their vendors and i would have to place the order directly through them. no problem because they had it for $50 cheaper than anywhere else.
so, monday morning i called to ask about placing an order and was told that part of the website was down for maintenance and i would have to do it by phone. that's no problem either. the guy was super nice about the whole deal and even apologized because it would take about 1 1/2 weeks because they just shipped a bunch off to the powdercoater. i say ok and place the order. (i'm in no hurry for it because i'm waiting on other parts to)
so guy, i never found out his name, assures me that he will process the order and get it taken care of that day. he never gives me a total, says thanks and hangs up. monday i get no confirmation or get charged, tuesday nope, wednesday nope. so i call wed. afternoon and ask about a total. the guy (no name again) says "oh, i don't think i have that info yet, let me check." he asks some lady and she says no info yet. guy then tells me to wait an hour and he will call me back with a total and some information. i never get a call and get busy and forget to call back.
now it's been 3 days and i'm not sure my order has been processed and i have no idea what the total is going to be. i don't want to be a jerk and keep harrassing these people, but i want to know what is going on with my order. i don't want to make 'em mad, i'm afraid they'll spit in my order. i really want this skid though. am i being irrational and just need to calm down?

I've dealt with Kilby for the last 4 years with no problems. And we still sell their products.

It might be easier to order it through 4wd and let them take care of the hassle, but if you don't want to do that, Call back again and ask for a name. Tell them it wasn't billed to your card yet and you wanted to see if they were having problems with your card. I never give out my card number without hearing an exact total. Good luck

well i should have gone through 4wd the first time and it just been done. but i had to order something from another place and i trusted them when they said i had to order from kilby. the bad news is, the guy never called back. the good news they did charge for it and i guess didnt rip me off either. now i have to sit back and wait on the big brown truck.

wow this keeps getting better. they shipped my skid plate on sept. 26th. today is oct. 6th. i don't have it yet. i got a tracking number from them and checked fed ex. fed ex hasn't updated the progress since the 27th. i also noticed that the destination was maysville, ga instead of mansfield, ga(this was around 10/1). so i called fed ex to fix the address. 3 days later the package still hasn't been updated. i called yesterday and the nice lady at fed ex said they had the package and it would be delivered tuesday between 8am and 8pm. today i get a call from fed ex and they say that they can't locate my package and they need me to call with a better description of what's in it and how much it is worth. then she said they would call me back later. what the heck?
i'm not saying don't buy from kilby. i'm just saying i wish i had checked around, especially with 4wd, before ordering direct. and if you do order direct, take the time with them on the phone and make sure all of your information is correct. then don't get in a hurry for it. maybe i'll get it soon.

i don't know if anybody is still reading this crap or not. but it makes me feel better to vent. today was the last day that i was supposed give FedEx with my stuff. i called about 3:00 and they informed me that they still can't find my package. then they said call back later maybe we'll find it.
so i call kilby and tell the nice lady what they say and she's not happy. she says after 8 days of a package being lost they classify it as lost and file a claim. so she says don't worry about it that she is going to call and take care of it and get a new one shipped out to me. all is well...
i get a call from FedEx at 7:00 and they leave me a message saying they found my skid plate in the lost and found department in salt lake city, the shipping sticker came off. what do i want them to do with it? so it's to late to know what the lady at kilby did about it and the guy needs an answer by monday about whether i want to contact the shipper or get them to continue shipping. either way it's gonna be 4-5 days out of salt lake city or 4-5 days from kilby in cali.
this turned out to be an adventure.

I had their gas thank shield on my TJ Rubicon and it was a Fantastic Product!
I did get mine through 4WD.
All I ask of mods is that they install and preform as advertised As far as I'm concerned the gas thank shield did so.
And I can tell you for the two years I ran it I beat the hell out of it on trails all over Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas never had a problem with it!

well after 18 days my skid plate arrived. i must say that i am impressed by it. it is much beefier than i expected. im pretty sure this thing is gonna hold up to whatever i put it through. its supposed to get put on next weekend so i guess we will see.
im still not impressed with fedex though. after they told kilby that the box was in great shape and they would ship it on two days they pulled a quick one. the original box looks like crap. theres a huge hole in the side of it and the box really doesnt line up anymore. so they reboxed it and put a bunch of packing foam in the new box. i guess thats better than nothing. but why didnt they just say it looks like crap and we'll continue shipping the other one? they were at the same place when they found it.
i dont know. either way, the customer service ended up being great at kilby and they obviously sent me a great product. but fedex still sucks.

well i finally got the dang thing. boy it was a buttload of fun doing it by myself to. the instructions werent kidding about needing a buddy to help. a bit of advice, dont do it with a full tank. i got it together but it could have so much easier. and of course i didnt have anything to put the gas in if i had siphoned it out.
it all went well. i couldnt find the electrical connector because of all the dirt on top of the tank. but a screwdriver and a blower nozzle took care of that. getting it off was no big deal, going back together sucked. i finally got it all back together and was bolting it up and dropped a nut inside the skid plate. so i had to take it back off and fish the nut out. then it got dark and i couldnt find the old man's light. so i finished it with a flash light. the instructions said to torque the bolts down to 141 ft/lbs. that didnt work. i broke the first one off, got mad, and said the heck with the torque wrench. so i get out the impact gun like an idiot and tell myself ill just tighten them up a little and finish it off. 2 went good, the third....broke it off to. then i really got mad.
so now its all bolted up and looks good. cant wait to try it out. but i only have 5 bolts out of 7 holding the thing on. so i gotta figure out if i want to drop the dang thing again to replace those two bolts or if five is gonna be enough. either way, nice skid plate, im still impressed.

ok so i found out why i broke some bolts. i went back to read the instructions...141in/lbs. thats a big difference and now i feel ignorant for not reading it right the first time.
