I was very fortunate to recently purchase a 1960 Willys CJ-5 from a relative. It sat in the same garage for all of it's 45 years and only has 20k. I am new to vintage cars but am ready to take care of this great car and use it occasionally around town. Everything works great and I have just purchased new wheels & tires. I want to keep it vintage but want some advice about whether or not to have a roll bar & seat belts installed. Also, the original cloth top is raggy here & there, the plastic very yellow and it's probably not waterproof. Should I replace it with a new one and if so, what type would be best and does a replacement work with or without rollbar? The Willys is green - what color top?

Hi.. I strongly suggest you post over on the following forums:

It is specific to the jeep you have, there is a lot of information there, and entusiests / collectors of your vintage CJ5. They will also enjoy hearing your story.

If you want to keep your vehicle vintage, then do nothing to change the vehicle outside of the way it was built.
By all means, check the referenced link as they may provide you with better information as to what you should or should not do with a vintage vehicle.
If you plan on using the vehicle for other than vintage reasons, then get out the saw, torch and fluorescent orange paint. Better yet, sell it to a collector and buy a better build vehicle.

Sorry I have to agree with rstarch. I would keep it like original. It would be different if you were restoring a old beat up one but you said this was original and untouched. Keep it original and keep the value. Buy another one for moding.
But then again I am a jeep purest. :cool2:
The guys on the Early CJ5 board can and will help you whether you want to do an historical restoration, some mild mods to modernize it, or extensive mods for serious offroading.
See you there. :)

I would definitely put in a rollbar and seat belts. Especially if you are going to take it off-road. As far as a top is concerned, I think that BesTop is the best available.
