Ok. I've read that a rare option in '93 was a 5-spd. manual mated up to the 4.0L. Could that swap be made in any of the later years? If so, anyone know how difficult? Would there be computer crap to deal with?

good question. i too have heard of the option, and after almost 6 years at a exclusive jeep dealership i still have never seen one. i do believe you could make it work. the trans have thier own computer, so you could just deep six it and be ok. another rare early 93 option was the ax4 trans.(the best trans ever made) cherokees have been using them all along. they're so awesome junk yards give em away.

Saw this the other day, '95 ZJ with the 5-spd. swap. He's using the AX-15 behind his 4.0L. And he's like 45 min. from me! And no bids! This might require some investigating....

if you went with the 5.2 or 5.9 zj you could pull a 5sp from a Ram and it should bolt up.

Really? Like a NV4500?

My buddy has a grand with a 5 speed and 4.0. We had to drive to Chicago to get it, but it was worth it. It is the same setup as the XJ's with the 6 cyl and AX15. It has the part time 4wd, and gets 20 to 26 mpg. If you can find an ax15 setup from bellhousing back, and took the linkage and pedal, you could swap it in to a XJ with an auto.

You mean a ZJ I suppose... :uglyhamm: But yea, that's what I'd like to do.
