(Pro Comp M/T 33x12.5x15). I initially went to bat for pro comp tires. I'm not so sure now. They have held out very well so far in all kinds of terrain. I went wheeling last week on some kinda nasty rocks/broken concrete type stuff, basically like someone unloaded a house foundation before it went dry. Basketball to bathtub sized rocks and concrete. Noticed the ride was a little more bumpy than usual. I took a good look and the tires have marble sized gashes missing from the lugs. Man, after over a year of nasty off road usage and heavy highway mileage. I'm disappointed but I can't I didn't somehow know this was coming:welcome2:. Now, am should I truly be disappointed or that's what I get for wheeling on semi jagged stuff?
P.S. the other guys don't have pocked tires.

I have seen people with gouged/sliced/torn tires, from BFG, Super Swamper, Goodyear, Procomp, etc. And most of them were on sharp rocks, or even mildly pointy rocks or sticks, so are they all junk too?

I've seen Pro-comp tires chunk like that also where other tires held up better. Pro comp seems to be a harder compound better suited for the street. A softer tire will take more abuse before chunking but wears faster. A harder compound wears better but doesn't do as well off road. It's a trade off. Do you need miles or performance...

I wheel in old mine pits, very jagged, sharp rocks.
Some tires do hold up better than others, especially in the sidewall dept.
My Maxxis Bighorns (radials) have held up well with the lugs, but my LTB radials haven't.
Oros is right, it's a trade off. Wheeling in any kind of jagged/sharp material will cut chunks/lugs from the tire.
Were you aired down? Airing down to 8-12 pounds, and avoiding spinning the tires as much as possible will help.

I didn't say that now did I? I was asking if this was probably due mainly to tires or the terrain? I've never wheeled in really jagged stuff like that. Right now I need miles, maybe in a year or two it'll switch to performance.

It was you and now you should know better, sharp rocks damage tires. It's just stupidity to criticize a tire manufacturer over your decision to wheel on demolished building materials. :24:

Well if you had tires that cost a good bit of money and they all of a sudden start pocking, wouldn't u ask questions? I have heard that pro comps are bad on rocks b/c of the compound they are made out of, so naturally I will pass the buck at first. I think I am one of like 2 people out of 50 who went to bat for pro comp a while back, what's with the backlash now?

The "backlash" is because you posted in the Product Review section and were not asking a question, you were reviewing.
If this had been asked in the Just Jeep or YJ section as to why the tires did this instead of here saying these tires are junk you would get a different response.
Pro Comp used to be pretty crappy, though have gotten much better, they are still a budget tire. As said, many factors come into play for tire wear and problems. Sounds like the tires did their job, and you did not get a punctured/slashed sidewall.

Heres my review:
Pro Comp XMT's
I put on the XMT's during the install on my lift. 35 x 12.5 x 15. I went with the XMT cause I prefer the heavy lug. Got more mud here in Wisconsin than rocks. (plus lots of snow) I wanted a heavy lug tire that would fair well for DD. My Rubi is my primary transportation, and I drive 35 miles to work, one way. In all weather.
I have a little over 10,000 miles on them now. They appear to be wearing real well. No noticable tread loss. I have them aired up @ 30 psi for the road. With most agressive tread tires, I expect around 40,000 to 50,000 miles of street use (IMO). My Goodyear MTR's wore faster, and got real loud during the second half of their life. I know that the MTR's are a softer compound, and more suited for rock crawling. As stated, I wanted a mud tire, with decient road worthiness.
For my needs (a heavy mud tire @ a medium price with good road manners) I give the pro Comp XMT's two thumbs up. They're wearing nice, not very loud, and a good price.
Side note. I did get a 2.5" steel spike jamed into one of them; in the mud shortly after getting them on. I didn't loose air untill I removed it. I was a little pi$$ed that I had just punctured one of my new shoes, but it was no ones fault but my own. I plugged it, and hung it on the back. Now it's the full sized spare.
