Your right 66-77 broncos have a similar track width to to yj (about 2 in shorter on each side). But the rear is not a dana 44 it is usually a ford 9in. which is just as good if not better than a 44. You just have to stay away from the earlier versions of the bronco because they have front drum brake dana 35's (weak) and the rear axle has 28 spline axle shafts. So the rear housing is good just the axle shafts aren't up to par with a dana 44 so I would definately look for the 71-77 bronco because they have the dana 44 front with 30 spline shafts and disc front brakes. The 9in in the rear for those years had the 31 spline axle shafts. Good Luck!!!
If your heart is set on a 44 rear you can find them with the same track width of your yj in certain commanche's and cherokee's ranging from 84-to 91 with the towing package. Again good luck.

i was wondering if you could just replace one axle and still be able to use 4wd.
i was thinking for now replace my rear axle w/ a dana 44 and just upgrade the gears in my front d30 with whatever i put in the 44...is this ok to do, seeing how i dont offroad much anymore(that is until i get my jeep running right again), pretty much only use 4wd in snow and when i get that little feeling i want to go play on peoples lawns :P

Yes, as long as the gear ratios are the same, not a problem.
1 thing to remember, some D44's have different wheel lug patterns, so look out for that too. The Jeep is a 5 lug on 4.5" pattern. Many D44's from other vehicles are 5 or 6 lug on 5 or 5.5" pattern.
