I hope to save you a dent and scratched paint with this warning.
I found a coolant leak when I got off work so I opened the hood on my Jeep to investigate. Looking down the front of the engine I figured the leak might be from the water pump ( I just had it replaced along with the radiator ). Plenty of coolant in the reservoir and radiator so I decide to start it up and look under the hood. Here's the warning: On a windy day, don't leave your hood up unattended. I had just got it started and headed out of the cab when a gust of wind caught my hood and slammed it against the windshield. Luckily no damage to the hardtop, but my hood now has a dent and cracked paint on either side of the raised portion of the hood. This is my first big dent! And the reason it bothers me is I wasn't on the trail. No cool stories just my stupidity. Don't let this happen to you.
