Hey guys and gals i am looking to put a bigger tire on my stock liberty with different wheels more than likely the same size as factory rims but i was wondering if anyone might know if a 245/75/16 will fit?

245/75r16 is going to rub in several places.
That tire size is 30.5+" in diameter. Without lifting your Liberty, they will not fit.
A tire 29.8" in diameter is the largest size that fits without rubbing on an unlifted, stock Liberty (according to folks that claim to know).
I just installed 245/70r16s on mine, diameter 29.6", fits fine, comes close to the wheel well, but I have no rubbing (although I have not flexed the vehicle either, so it's possible I may still have some rubbing at full stuff).
I'm curious why you're changing wheels if you are keeping the same size. The stock wheel is 4.5" backspacing. Larger tires usually call from less backspacing to push the tire out away from the hub... but with a Liberty's wheel wells, you're going to encounter more issues there also, including the pinch weld (rear portion of front wheel well) and the rear wheel well.

Thanks for the reply i am just trying to get a tire that will not roll as bad as the tires i have on there now the stock tires suck and i am wanting an 8ply or 10ply tire and they are the only sizes with a fairly aggresive tread that i would like to have! trying to stay away from any issues as it is the wifes liberty and i only drive it when she isnt looking lol so was looking at a pair of
245 75 16 SUPER SWAMPER IROK ND and was hoping that they would fit lol they are bad a$$ looking lol but guess i will stay with a closer to stock LT 8ply which should be ok! what size backspacing would be the best !! and the reason i am changing rims is it has the stock steelies on it and i would like a little more shine!!

You can put a 245/70r16, 225/75r16 or a 235/70r16 on there with no issues. Using a 7" wide 16" wheel with stock backspacing - that is listed as XX4.5"XXX edit/correction: 5.5" backspacing. If you check around, you may be able to find some snazzier stock wheels in aluminum. There are plenty of tire sizes with fairly aggressive tread that will fit, including some LT instead of P rated tires.
Trying to lift these things is a whole can of worms... with the IFS, as you lift, the more it tucks the front wheels in towards the Jeep's center. So without going to something like a solid front axle, you cannot get a lot of lift into them without a whole lot of headache.
edit:
If this is your wife's DD, then you'd probably be better off going with what I did, the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires... great on-road manners, tough tire, and reasonably aggressive look without much tire noise. Because while going to a much heavier tire might make you feel better, it's going to kill the gas mileage and make her very unhappy.

You might also want to look at this one...

It's got a very aggressive look. And is available in a size that fits... 225/75r16

Thanks tom i think i have found the tire i am going to try .. a LT245/70R16
BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires not as aggressive as i would like but i think it will be fine the only time the libby goes off roading is during the summer for camping trips and deer season lol so and a lift is a no no from wha i have heard from everyone anyways .. so to recap still thinking about the bfg's but almost 99% sure of thats what i am going with mainly for the 8 ply tires and semi aggressive tread and i really do appreciate your input and fast responce to a noobies question!!! A+ in my book ..

The BFGs will do fine... they are well thought of, and many people here swear by them as opposed to swear at them.
:rolling:
Everyone's a noobie sometime.
Here's what a Libby can look like if you want to take things up a notch:

Hm, I like the look but I don't think that this rig will drive too well since the cog is way to high. Still, nicely built...

You should borrow it to visit the showroom... the foglights are at least 4 feet off the ground on this thing... imagine pulling up behind a Jetta in that?
Yeah, it's built as a mudder. I wouldn't suggest high-speed maneuvers in it.

LOL that would be a nice idea... I will keep that in mind as plan C... oh, didn't I tell you plan B? It involves a well known German member of this board and his old Army toy making it's way right through the window of the showroom... :bur2:

You can always say your foot slipped while trying to press the brake pedal and accidently hit the gas instead!
:3:
Just make sure that "well known German member of this board and his old Army toy" drive over a couple of showroom cars in the process!

Right, I always wanted to see all models from up close and what better look than from a higher position? And I have to make sure they all resist side impacts...
