Hey all.
this is my first older Jeep well Willys.
I belive it is a cj3b. I was told 50's but I think it is 60's
1) If I post pics can someone tell me for sure?
2) It came with two 225ci Buick engines {in the back} but everything I ever saw says they did not come stock in a Willys Is that true?
3) If it's not stock should I go with the v6 or try to find a 4?
Sorry for so many questions at once but we just got this and are trying to put a game plan together.
Thanks for any help
Marc

Post a picture. the v6's came in the CJ'5s in the 60's. Check out this site CJ3B page (http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Index.html)

Ok on a little closer look the hood seems to long it lines up in front but has a lota over hang in the back. The hinge is NOT stock.
The dash looks to be original no glove box
and last but not least the doors look like a fab job but they are hollow and seamed pretty well for a hack job so I don't know.
Looking at the sheet metal it appears to be an abused CJ2A or CJ3A. It's not a 3B or a 5...
That means the newest it would be is 1952.
A 225 V6 should fit nicely in there and provide plenty of power.
Lots of 225 V6 info at the link in my sig.

Thanks for the input
I want to plan it out before I start taking things apart. Is there some where I could look to get a close ID?
As for the V6 he has 2 in the back 1 I know is a 225 the other may be a 231 I have to dig in a little farther. As for rebuild on the motor I am looking forward to that. I put a 225 in a Vega back in the day and it would run low 13's in the 1/4. This one is going to be set up a little differant more low end insted of high. Looks like some one tried to put the v6 in the manifolds are installed as is the bell housing.
the May 2005 issue of JP has a couple pages on a jeep with similar doors, called it a 53 DJ-3a
but according to the CJ-3B page, they didnt make DJs until 55 and only in 2wd... and on their time line, cj-3a stopped in 53. and from a couple of the pictures it looks like the hood does extend back like yours...

Whatever it is, I wish I would have found it. :furious3:
Congrats..

Thanks
I looked at the sites ya'll put up and my best guess right now is 3a
I am going to try to clean the id plate to night there is a guy who has been working on dateing them by the serial number.
It should be a fun project I am sure I will have lots of questions for ya'll as it gets going.
Thanks again for your input.

Yah it definitely cannot be a CJ-3B because it does not have the "high hood" that resulted from the taller engine that was put in the 3B compared to the 3A.
Thats a great find though. It should be lots of fun to work on and drive.
If it were my jeep I would probably put a chevy V6 in it or else put in an a more original 226 Super Hurricane engine. My '55 truck has this engine and it performs great though it is not very highway worthy.

If the motor in the back of it is rebuildable I think that is what I am putting in.
it came with 2 225ci motors I think someone started a swap and gave up.
I found a elec. fuel pump mounted under the body and wired also they did a hack job on the muffler to add the v6 manifolds.
I did find a small crack in the rear frame cross member that will have to be fixed.
The funy thing to me is the body has less rust then my '78CJ5. The tub is not in bad shape at all.

ok now I am confused.
I noticed that the door cut outs on all the early CJ's have a kick plate coming up from the floor.
The one I got the door opening goes all the way down to the floor.
Now I am wondering if someone put a Dj body on a Cj frame?
