XJ ZJ diff ?

Ok what is the Diff between a ZJ and a XJ ? only thing i have seen diff here at the junk yards is that the grand jus looks diff and they all have the same engines and trannies .. other then i hope my 5 speed NEVER goes bad !!!!! cause out of bout 40 jeeps at the JY only one had a 5 speed in it

Ok, here's a rundown of what I know:

Grand Cherokee (ZJ) is bigger than the Cherokee (XJ). XJ came with 2 engines: the 4.0L I-6 or the 4 cyl. (I wanna say 2.8L?). The ZJ was available with the 4.0L I-6 and the 5.2L V8, with the addition of the 5.9L V8 in '98. (This is where I'm not so sure on the exact numbers on the trannys and TC's.) The XJ was always available with a 5-spd. manual and a 4 spd. auto. The ZJ always had the 4 spd. auto but only had a 5-spd. option for '93 and maybe '94. The ZJ I know had the Selec-Trac, Comman-Trac and Quadra-Trac TC's. I do not know what TC's the Cherokee had. Other than that, the more knowledgeable will have to tell you...

oh ok been wondering about that cause at the JY couldnt tell a diff but also cant drive in the jy that i go to have to walk in there so cant really compare them side by side i got a 88 cherokee lerado 4.0 5 spd and none in the jy have 5 spds jus all auto's

the XJs came with a np231 command trac and a np242 selec trac. my 90xj has the np231 which has the 2hi,4hi,N,and 4lo with the 5speed. selec trac has the 2hi, full time 4wd, 4hi and 4lo. any other ? on the XJs there is a sticky on the XJ board that has info on what came available on them.
