I love the Quad in my '96. It is a real benifit for the Mrs. There is no more phone calls of "is it bad enough out for 4wd?".

But I want the advantage of having 2WD and not always running 4WD and wearing out front-end parts and lowering my gas mileage...

Quadra-Trac has only 4WD Full Time/N/4LO. Selec-Trac is 2HI/4 Part-Time/4HI/N/4LO. Command-Trac is the normal 2HI/4HI/N/4LO.

all v8 grands came with the 249 quadra trac, and some i6's. the 249 has the viscous coupler which is kind of like a posi. heavy 4wheelers like the select(242) and comand(231) trac tcases due to the fact that power runs through gear on gear, and not hydraulically coupled(can you say broken axles). but the 249 do get a little worse mileage, im at 13.
