View Full Version : Cj6
I have a 1970 CJ6 and in need of a complete body etc for it, anyone got one? thanks for the help, Ron, Hamburg PA.
Hey Ron
I don't know of any in our area.
There is a website on the 'net by a friend of mine, Mike Boyink, who is building a CJ6. He has put together a nice CJ6 site where owners can list their rigs.
I know there was some talk of a 6 tub for sale either on Boyink's site or over on EarlyCJ5.com (6's are covered there too... you should check out the forums, including Wanted/For Sale)

Hey Lynn -
You're the early CJ guru. I know that they made the CJ-6 through 1975. Did they ever make them with the 304 V-8? I've seen a few of them here in Colorado, but they all have the 232 with the 3-speed. A factory V-8 CJ-6 with a T-18 would be a pretty cool rig.

Actually the CJ-6 was built from 55-81 here in the states. The last year they were sold at dealerships was 1975 but in 76 and 77 they could still be purchased by government agencies. From 78-81 they were only built for export. There are a few 76-81 CJ-6s in the states, there was a 1980 CJ-6 with a four cylinder diesel out in Oregon and every once in a while I hear about other ones.
They did offer the 304 as an option in CJ-6 Jeeps from 72 on up though it doesn't seem like it was taken as an option as often in CJ-6s since they usually filled a utilitarian role. While T-18s were also offered in the 6 they were more common behind the I6 than the 304 regardless of whether you are talking about a CJ-5, CJ-6 or CJ-7. Keep in mind though that any 72-75 T-18 is going to have the less desireable 4 to 1 first gear rather than the 6.32 to 1 low range you find in CJs built in the later 70s.
Just thought I would chime in.
Renegade, I defer to Jason's expertise on this one... :)
Jason, I know you're busy with other sites, but we would like to see you over on ECJ5 more often :)

Again, if you could ever find a mint CJ-6 with the factory V-8 and the T-18, that would be a cool rig. Talk about rare!

You mean this rare 1955 M-170 Frontline Ambulance/Troop Hauler,
Here is a post where I am converting my CJ8 to a M170, I just started to get everything together.

M170

Probably the rarest Jeep ever produced, the M170 was a stretched M38A1. Only about 6,500 were produced, many outfitted as field ambulances. One unique feature was that the spare tire was mounted inside the body on the passenger side, to allow stretchers to extend over the tailgate. Inspiration for the civilian version CJ-6.

I was at a salvage yard in Ft. Collins, Colorado last week and they have a decent CJ-6 body. Name of the yard is 4x4 Parts - Talk to Bob.

4WDH's vintage Jeep catalog has a complete CJ-6 body kit listed. Also, just the tub.
