I bought my '75 CJ-5 about 6 mos ago. It has a AMC304 V-8, 3-Speed, P/S, no top, what looks to be the wrong roll bar(sets about 3" taller than windsheild), 31" Goodyear AT/S. The guy I bought it off of told me is was a Levi Strauss Edition. He pointed out to me that the pad underneith the dash and the seats were done in a 'denim'. It looks like some kind of vinal. He had recovered the seats b/c of wear, but he 'said' the original was still under the new. There were also 3 Levi buttons down the middle of the seat. But he took them off to prevent wear through the new covering.

If anyone knows a way to find out if this is correct, or a way for me to find out if whather or not it is in fact a Levi Strauss Ed. I would greatly appriciate the info.

Love the chair for sittin' and lookin' at yer ride! Try runnin a check of the vin tag on the fire wall. If it was a "factory" accesory, it should show on the vin, yes? Darn good lookin jeep at any rate!!

Roll bar looks right to me... My neighbor's '74 has the same bar and it's gennie, factory paint on the bar. The steering wheel looks incorrect, but I really can't tell from the pic. BTW, Levi's edt CJs do exist, from what I just looked up in JEEP The Unstoppable Legend by Arch Brown, 1975 was supposed to be the first year of the option. The book also stated that the Levi's int. was standard in the Renegade that year, optional on the regular CJ5s. If I recall correctly, the Renegade package included the 304. I know it also included aluminum "5 slot" wheels.

I'm not so sure about a Levi Strauss "Edition". I had a 77 CJ7 Renegade that had the Levi Strauss stuff on it. On mine, it included low back buckets and a back seat that was brown denim with the metal buttons in the seating. The rag top was the same denim color but no buttons. Mine had the 304, white spoke wheels, brown dash and a decal above the Jeep name on the side that said Levi. You do have a good looking ride. As far as the VIN goes, I've been unable to find out anything from Chrylser about my current Jeep because their records don't go that far back. I have been tracing mine through the state registration records to find the dealer that sold it :USA:

Hi, take a look at the metal "build plate" riveted onto the firewall near where the steering column comes out. For a 75 CJ, you should see 3 or 4 lines of imprinted data. One of the middle lines will consist of 3 or 4 little blocks of data - depending upon your car's color, etc. the entire line MIGHT read something like "20 7B 6CG" - the last 3 digits signifies the interior trim code - _CG denotes a Levis interior. I have a 77 CJ5 Golden Eagle with 6CG as the trim code. Blue Levis was a different code - not sure what. Feel free to email me and I'll check my books. Dan dbrodkey@hotmail.com

I have a '76 CJ5 Levi edition. The original seats, dash, and top were blue vinyl wih a denium design. The seats, top, and dash have all been replaced with OM. The only thing remaining of Levi is the Levi logo just above the Jeep on the sides at the font of the doors. I have a JPG file of an ad for the Levi CJ5 and a MOV file of a TV commercial for it. The MOV file is 2,237K If you want a copy of either, I could E-mail them to you.[/img]
