I just bought a 68' Jeep CJ5. The motor has been running strong (225 V6). Today we noticed some oil dripping out of the exhaust line where the header connects to the rest of the exhaust. there is no dripping around the valve covers or from the block. Any help would be nice... thanks

well the exhaust stroke is an upwards type stroke, so i would like to think that oil in your ehaust could point to bad rings, that could also cause bad compression...is it coming from the "dougnut"as some would like to call it?

that was a thought of mine....being the rings. It is in fact leaking from the "doughnut." Have you see this before, and is it easily fixable?? this is my first Jeep.....help is appreciated, thank you

I've never personally done it, but i would imagine it be a task that would take some time...if your piston rings are bad, you may also be looking to make sure the other internal components are in working order.....i've seen it before on a ford thunderbird, poor compression was acompanied by the oil in exhaust type stuff.....that engine more than likely will need to get pulled, but that is just my opinion..

I agree, get a compression test done. That will let you know the condition of the rings.

My first thought was the rings....I drove it under 10 miles with no problems since when i bought it. I checked the oil today and it seemed a couple quarts over full....could that do it as well. If this becomes too big of a problem i might just go ahead and put the 350 in

yes, if it is too full oil gets in all kinds of places it shouldnt. Drain the oul and change filter, then add just till full.
