I do not have a manual, bc i lent it to a friend and he didnt return it, but does anyone know what set of gears came in a 83CJ7 with the 2.5L 151cui "iron duke"....i do not feel like taking the cover off, thanks

It depends...... What tranny do you have? Usually the 4sp had 3.54 and the 5sp had 4.10. But as in everything Jeep, nothing is etched in stone!! Why not jack the rearend off the ground & count # of driveshaft rotations to 1 tire rotation. (Open diff.- only lift one tire & turn it two full rotations)

cool thanks, i have a four speed, but like u said who knows, once i get my hands back on the jeep ill check it out.

My '81 CJ 5 had the Iron Duke with an SR4 4-speed and it came with 3.54 gears.

Didn't know if you found the info on your gears or not, so you may have already figured this out. (Just recently joined up and was looking though the older posts.) There is a code stamped on the outside of the axle. Here's a good link that identifies what the code means and where to find it. --> http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/axle/amc20.html
And LWB is right, nothing is etched in stone. My '84 CJ-8 came with 2.73s. :shock:
