I recently put a K&N Kit....it seems to have improved performance and responsiveness of my XJ. Has anybody created a way to get more air into the engine compartment where the air filter (intake) is?

Wondering if there was a way to get more "fresh" air to it, would it run even better or does it get plenty of air without further modifications? I would not want to create a situation where more water (rain or road/tire splash) would get in there!

Any thoughts????

I think what I'd do is put an air scoop on the hood near the air intake. You could monkey something up yourself by looking at the box and hood. Eyeball it and figure out where you'd like air to come in. Search Cherokee pages which have "cheap" solutions. Use your search engine for something like......"jeep+cherokee+modifications" etc. When I can't build it myself I research it and look at other's ideas.
I drive an '88 myself and like cheap mods. Good luck!

Do you have the airtube and K&N filter. I got the rustys airtube and cone filter. as far as freash air it gets plenty when moving and during winter time. One problem that I have noticed is during the summer that thing runs way hot so you have hot air getting sucked in. Fine during the winter just cr@ppy during summer time. My solution is that I'm looking for a 97+modle hood. I don't care what color it is cause I'm going to sand it down primer it, and add a snorkel system to it and vent it like this.

I have buddy that I work with that wants to paint flames on it and I said sure why not. right.

THe snorkle intake I want is going to just hook up to the airtube I have now. and I'm going to insulate it so that the motor doesn't heat up the air going thru it any more than it needs.

My only problem right now is finding a used 97+ style hood that isn't damaged. I've found tones of older hoods but they wont work for the 97+ style. I tried they just dont match up.

I know what I want and how to go about it. I just need the hood. I found one at one point for 80 bucks but by the time I got there they guy sold it. I told him to hold onto it, but when I got there some guy offered him 90 for it so he took it. I would have gave him 100 for it.

The other hoods I've found have been in the 200 to 400 range. Thats too much for what I want to do with it.
